There was an ASIC design class I think or something related to ASICs.

That one.

Nothing, took two semesters of spanish in college for the degree, have long forgotten all of it except the extreme basics. "English" is the language I talk at work and with clients.

personal finance as it's something I'm interested in now. I thought about auditing it but it didn't fit my schedule.

I want to say I would have taken more PE classes, but they also didn't fit my schedule - and I worked out at my gym anyway

I took conversational spanish and really enjoyed it. (I also took a LOT of other classes as I ended up with the credit hours for more than a double minor, but alas)

I wish history of latin america pt 2 (the more modern one) had been offered when I was there, took the first and really enjoyed the material and the professor.

Eng: The Romantic Period
Eng: The Victorian Period

Lat/Grk: Classical Mythology

Those are the big 3 that I wanted to take, but just couldn't squeeze in my 5 1/2 years of college.

i wish i would have skipped the ASICs (ECE 406, 520) and focused more on Analog Circuit Design.

ASIC classes, while fun, were probably the most worthless classes I took from an "applicable to the EE job market standpoint" who the hell gets hired to do ASIC design, anymore? that's so last decade.

well,a least the A's helped boost my major GPA...

^ you'd be surprised.

I don't have to deal with the design but, i spend a lot of time troubleshooting ASIC related problems.

I would have taken more classes for personal enrichment. Things like design, wood & metal working, PE, Geology, Environmental Sciences, etc.

I wish I would have gotten into some advanced Spanish. If you take learning it seriously, you'll have hundreds of questions. After graduation, it became a hobby of mine, but I rarely get the chance to speak the language. I should look into classes, but it seems like they would be too expensive.

metal working ie. machining and welding

not necessarily a class, but i wish i'd would have gotten involved with the formula SAE and mini baja stuff.

there's lots of 20/20 hindsight and shoulda/coulda/woulda things i'd have done differently.

Philosophy of Law is by far the worst class I took in my 175 hours at NC State The prof is dry, uninteresting and doesn't seem to have her shit together.

Political Philosophy with Hinton was one of the best, but most people think it was pretty hard. My other fave class was CSC 201 with Lasher, "What you're saying my baby's ugly... YOU SON OF A BITCH."

but as far as ones not directly applicable to my major: Conversational Spanish (as was mentioned above), Archery, Woodworking or Cabinetmaking, and there are probably some others i cant think of right now

ahahaha. bee keeping. I remember when my roommate freshman year took that. She had to write a midterm paper...I sincerely remember this line: "The bee is noted by a loud "bzzzzzzzzzz" sound."

I nearly peed myself when she said that.

She liked it.

511 absolutely makes 403 look pathetic... you actually know what it takes to make an amplifier IN a given technology... Bilbro does a phenominal job teaching the basics and getting you used to the general concepts though... 403 IS a good course... but it won't prepare you to do any real world IC design.

792x you learn a shit-ton about noise sources... the first half of the class is JUST noise... where it comes from, how to avoid it.

The more analog classes I take the less I like them... I thought I wanted to do analog design but I find custom digital (transistor design of digital cells) a lot more fun.

I'm slated to take 592d(switchmode circuits) and 792d(data converters) and 719(uW circuits) next semester...

ASIC design =~ FPGA design... FPGA's are a subset of ASIC's and MOST board design houses use them at some point in their design cycle. Having done both I consider the terms completely interchangeable... just depends on what you need. And if your wondering about all those jobs going to india/china... Defense industry does massive amounts of UBER-cutting edge design

You are also pretty much qualified to design digital circuits immediately upon graduation whereas analog circuits typically involves being mentored even after the masters level...

I wanted to take more classes... So I quit work and went back for my masters degree... NCSU is so freaking cheap I'm paying it out of pocket and I'm not worried one bit about paying off student loans. Having already made engineering salary and seeing how fast you can squander it if you aren't paying attention I didn't mind investing in myself and my future.

[Edited on March 9, 2008 at 2:25 PM. Reason : Bilbro is awesome and 403 is a good course... 511 being a masters level class just dwarfs it]

Latin American history was the biggest joke I ever sat through. We spent an entire semester discussing how gouchos liked to stab each other and that every political official in central and south america is corrupt. 5 minutes of listening to the world news will teach you that much.

I'm currently in GC420, but I think I meant to sign up for GC120. Whichever one involves technical drafting, auto-CAD, that kind of thing. I wish I had taken/was currently taking it.

And another english class with Dr. Fosque. She's a really cool teacher, and I'd like to have her again.
