i would stay away from the inner harbor if you want local bars. i dont make it out to fells points very often since i live on the other side of the harbor, but just go to broadway and thames. there are tons of bars in that areas. you can just walk around and find one that has an atmosphere that you like. during the weekends, there are people all over that area out drinking. 12/19/2007 3:47:15 PM |

ill be honest, i haven't really gone out in the area for dinner, so i dont know any places specifically. the area i mentioned is full of shops, restaurants, and bars, but i dont frequent it enough to be able to name a good place, sorry. i know good places in federal hill, but thats on the other side of the harbor. 12/19/2007 3:54:14 PM |

You can probably find a bar in Baltimore with St. Ides and Schlitz on tap. 12/19/2007 5:55:57 PM |

Fells: As a rule, I avoided all of the bars on broadway. these are shitty awful tourist bars full of stereotypical people depending on the bar's theme.
Fletcher's & the bar beside it that I forgot the name of (Bond street, like 2 blocks west of broadway) John Steven's (east of broadway in the cobblestone part) quiet bar attached to a great restaurant, I took my wife here on our first date. Wharf Rat. four stars. --
Not downtown? Brewer's Art. I'm dying for a pint of Resurrection, and I won't be up that way till March
Best Bloody Mary brunch? Red Fish! (on Boston east of fells) 12/20/2007 12:15:41 AM |

^^ i second the wharf rat. we used to play trivia there, but i havent been in a while. i disagree about all bars on broadway being touristy. (although i understand if you live in the area and don't want to deal with crowds when you go out) most of the obnoxious tourists stay in the inner harbor. if you don't want to walk around a lot in a city you aren't familiar with, broadway and thames is a good place to start. theres something for everyone there, all within a minutes walk. fell's point in general isn't going to be as "stereotypical" (as you put it) as bars on cross st in federal hill or o'donnell square in canton.
dont forget about brewers art's rosemary fries. the best fries ive ever had....and will give you horrible breath for the rest of the night.
you don't have to go to brewer's art for a resurrection though. its quite abundent at bars all over the city.

ok I was a little harsh about the broadway bars... but I always found them to be cramped and loud. And they are not as frat boyish as cross street, thats for sure.
^^^ oh I know it's on tap all over town, but it's really a fun bar, too (downstairs). Ever eaten there? The chef comes out and asks people what they think of the food.
I worked at Alonso's on Cold Spring for a while. 12/20/2007 8:29:20 PM |
