Every now and then you can get lucky at the recycling centers. I scored a stack of dwell and modern home once. But its normally just old real estate books and junk mail.

yeah... graphic design mags are usually the best designed anyway (it's our job), and probably the big reason designers get them is to find some inspiration... my whole library is tagged with post-its labeling different artists and stuff to look back to.

no. you learn by absorbing other designs that look good, and use other artists' work as an inspiration. maybe there's a color you really like in it, or a typeface, or maybe you just think it's neat looking and want to keep it to look back later.
