This might be a futile thing to ask, but does anyone have any experience temporarily trading land? I want to live in Australia/new Zealand for a year or so, and I have some property in Hawaii (no house, a barn and some fruit trees). I wanted to set up an exchange with someone where I squat on their land down under and they get to camp out on mine. Does anyone know of websites that would help me get in contact with someone who wants to do this? Also, is there any legal problem with pulling this off? Thanks.

I doubt you'll have much luck with this approach. Why not just rent your property and use the money to rent something down under?

As I understand it, when in Australia you can trade gasoline for pretty much everything. Of course, you'll want to be discreet or a roving biker gang might try to kill you and take your gasoline.

^^^ Well, because there is nothing really to rent. No house... I mean, I could lease the land, but it's rural and only 3 acres, not enough to seriously farm.

An acquaintance of mine that has real estate that he rents out as a vacation home by the weak from time to time, but has mentioned trading a free place to stay on a week for a week basis in other places, Ireland being one example. I have no idea what website he did this on, but apparently it can be done. I have no idea if the same sort of exchange is done anywhere on a longer term.

^ Thats a good idea. I found someone on there who wanted to exchange lives (businesses, possessions, friends.) Needless to say, I'm in contact with him.
