so, once the primaries are over, and the Obama campaign can focus against the Republican opponent, I wonder who will be his running mate?

I'd say certainly not Edwards or Clinton...

but I really dont have an idea who would be. Richardson would be interesting, but I know thats a near impossibility.

I'm think it has to be an older, white male, who is preferably a Governor, or large-city mayor.

I think this discussion is slightly premature. Iowa, for all its flaws, is only one state. There's 49 others, and I've heard some are actually bigger, even.

Obama doesn't have NEARLY enough experience to be an effective president.

and bush had a ton...

and i cant see clinton going as a vp for obama, and i cant see obama going vp for her, but him being vp is more likely than her being vp

i also think iowa is full of a bunch of damn retards, and think new hamspire is way more important

Whoever the winner is, they better pick Nelson from Florida as VP or they will not win Florida(and thus, loose again)

biden or richardson helps us in foreign policy...as much as i'd love to get an excuse to see biden make policy, richardson is younger, probably has better judgement...plus that helps us out with immigration(maybe(dems might figure out a way to say that)))...

I'm actually starting to like Obama.

In his victory speech, I almost got the feeling he wanted to yell

"WHAAAAAAAT. WHAAAAAAAAT NIGS. YALL SAID I COULDNT DO IT. WHAAAAAAT"

Obama/Biden is something I'd like to see and it actually makes some sense for the Democratic party as a whole. Biden brings experience that many say Obama lacks, especially in foreign policy, and given some of the things Biden has said/done in the past, it could gain them some ground in the South.

^Mainly just kidding... referring to the fact that Biden has had quite a few public relations mis-steps by accidentally sounding racist, and the fact that so many people claim that the South would never elect a black man.

biden was sucking up to barack like a mf in one of the debates in the past few weeks...made me wonder if he'd do it(i'd love obama/biden personally)...and i agree with tromboner on the giving him something he lacks thing...richardson would even be better at that probably with all his nobel prize winning shit etc etc but hes a fat mexican so biden works better

Yeah let's start discussing Obama's running mate. He has as much momentum as Hillary six months ago or Howard Dean in 2004. It's pretty much a done deal.

As much as I'd like to see Obama win the primary I think it's still too early to say with any certainty that he will. Honestly I'm just happy to see that people have some sense about them and put Hillary in 3rd place. But I do like the Biden idea, I am a fan of his policy and to have him as Veep would be great along side Obama.

i appreciate the sarcasm but thats really a non-sequiter. what happens six months prior to the first caucus/primary is irrelevant

and Dean lost miserably in Iowa. Kerry won. I really think Obama's going to win this. Unless he fucks up. or unless the Hillary war machine can get downright nasty and make up a bunch of lies or something.

I still think Edwards has a strong chance of pulling ahead of Obama, especially in the southern states. I don't think Clinton will fare as well in the south and Obama will do well, but I can't see a 1st place finish in many of the states.

^^^What I'm getting at is it's too early to say one way or the other. His chances at winning definitely soared in my mind, but it's not a done deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Well speaking as a small-gov't person, there's no way I'd support any of the dems.

But it is refreshing to see the Clinton machine lose some of its grip over the party. With all her money and connections, she still couldn't make it happen.

The thing that would make me nervous is that there isn't a whole lot the Hillary Smear Machine can do with Obama. He's such a neophyte. Without any mud to sling, and desperate to win, I'd hate to see them "suicide/plane crash" Barack.

He's polling significantly behind in South Carolina right now, a state that he won in 04. Without the money (which he doesnt have) and the support (which he doesnt have) it would take some serious mis-steps by both Clinton and Obama for him to pull this out.

hes not really that much of a neophyte, as the media seems to want you to believe.

he does have only a single term as a US Senator, yes. (like Edwards... or, for that matter, similar to Bush's single term as governor)

but he had 12 years in the Illinois Senate before that.

and years of political/community organiation at the Chicago-area and national level for a highly-prominent civil rights law firm before that.

and not to mention he was the first black president of the Harvard Law Review

this guy is sharp. and he does have relevant experience.

They've already tried bringing up the "Muslim school/drug usage" thing and then 'apologizing' for bringing it up as a cheap tactic to get people talking about it.

that's not a little bit cliche, or anything. but, seriously, it's not just that he is `articulate` and `well-spoken`... the man has power and cadence.

when hes on top of his game, his speeches can be almost mesmerizing. He's really quite an orator.

by the way... did anyone else notice, that everyone's post-caucus speech (hillary, edwards, huckabee, romney, etc.) they ALL had their families and friends surrounding them while they rambled on about "thank you" this, and "thank you" that, stuff about the iowa campaign and people they met...

but Obama, he got up there, cleared the entire stage, told his wife and kids to sit down, then delivered just an amazing speech that was focused on winning the presidency.

it was like the primaries were over and he was ready to get to work.

^ i was telling that to my grandfather earlier. If Obama wins (which is more likely if he wins NH) he'd should look for a governor from the South to run with. Easley would be ideal for that (not for me since the guy is never in Raleigh) or perhaps Warner from VA?

And as much as I was Edwards homeboy in 2004, he's done unless he can keep up in SC. He's got no money (public finance) and no support left (unions or women like in 2004).

He needs to finish 2nd in NH and at least tie for 1st in SC to make himself relevant in February. Unless the anti-Clinton anti-old guard votes keep following in, which he would automatically benefit from along with Obama.

^ Edwards would've had to win in Iowa to be the anti-hillary candidate. Unfortunately, with Obama winning Iowa, he's not going to be that person. If HRC screws up, it benefits Obama, which then makes it harder for Edwards to win. Both Obama and HRC need to screw up to give Edwards a chance.

For a chance to win it all yes, both Obama and Clinton need to implde. But at this point its a race for 2nd, if Obama wins NH, between the two. However if Clinton wins NH, I think Edwards can finally put to rest his ambitions to be President.

Hindsight is 20/20 but with Edwards' strong liberal change message he should have been the candidate this year IF he stayed in the Senate longer and did not run in 2004. Now Obama is the real fresh face and is using the frustation of the Party and America that Edwards didn't have in '04 to perhaps run away with this.

Its only Iowa so lets not get ahead of ourselves though

Maybe if he had stayed in the senate but honestly the first 3 month of his campaign that were the strongest. It was a great campaign... things changed though, and the management of the campaign went by the wayside.

I would know, worked there until this past September

Can anybody see Obama selecting someone from the GOP or even an independent for a VP as a personal statement of uniting the country? Is he allowed to? I know the Dems and the GOP would go crazy about it.
