I feel like watching a mafia type movie, can anyone suggest a few good Mafia movies?
I have seen all of the Sopranos
Casino
Goodfellas
Scarface
Departed
History of violence
I have not seen Godfather but I'm not really into older movies. Is it really worth watching? I love all the above films?

Godfather I and II are excellent; even though they are "old" movies they feel relatively modern. (For movies set in the 40's/50's, anyhow...)
I would also recommend Donnie Brasco. Excellent Mafia movie, from the viewpoint of an undercover cop trying to infiltrate the organization. 1/7/2008 4:06:52 PM |

I’m an attorney for the Corleone family. These men are private detectives hired to protect Vito Corleone. They are licensed to carry firearms. If you interfere you’ll have to appear before a judge in the morning and show just cause. 1/7/2008 4:36:03 PM |

Goodfellas is probably my favorite movie ever
but you know i'm getting older and shit so i can't act the fool all the time like Henry and Tommy and Jimmy so I gotta go with The Godfather cause I mean at the end of Godfather 1, Henry Hill doesn't rat out the whole Corleone family 1/7/2008 5:31:09 PM |

I can never decide if my favorite all-time movie is Goodfellas or GF1. GF2 is a close 3rd. 1/7/2008 5:39:24 PM |

i love The Cooler. not so much a mafia movie, but it's damn good. Alec Baldwin has a great role in that one as an "old school" casino owner with mafia ties.
Miller's Crossing (classic!) Untouchables Road to Perdition I'm not a big fan, but Scarface if you want to watch bad dancing and listen to a god awful soundtrack Made (a funny one by Jon Favreau) 1/7/2008 7:02:16 PM |

I got Miller's Crossing for Christmas and I'll be watching it tonight probably. Road to Perdition is an amazing and underrated movie, one of my faves.

So I finally watched the Godfather this past week. I really enjoyed it. Only thing is, I watched it on AMC so it was edited. I just borrowed the whole set from a friend and will now watch it as it was meant to be viewed. I also look forward to part 2.
I still enjoyed Goodfellas more but they are close. Goodfellas was a little more fun and upbeat overall. 4/16/2015 10:29:34 AM |

Layer Cake revolves around Daniel Craig as a drug/crime boss in London. Really like the movie. Plus, it's peak Sienna Miller hotness.

3 that would probably be worth mentioning in such a thread that haven't been yet are Eastern Promises, American Gangster & Reservior Dogs
Some tangentionally related, less traditional & more lighthearted takes on the genre would be Snatch, In Bruges, Lucky Number Slevin, Seven Psychopaths, Bottle Rocket and Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrles 4/16/2015 1:55:06 PM |

The Godfather is more serious than Casino/Goodfellas, but I think it's every bit as good.

Did anyone else think Wolf of Wall Street kind of felt like a retelling of Casino?
Also, I love a good mobster comedy. Especially Analyze This and to a lesser degree Analyze That. Also, can't lie...I enjoyed Mickey Blue Eyes. Just stay the hell away from a movie called "The Last Godfather," for it was God-Awful.

Not a movie but a Showtime series called Magic City.
Quote : | "Set in 1959 Miami, Florida shortly after the Cuban Revolution, Magic City tells the story of Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the owner of Miami's most glamorous hotel, the Miramar Playa. Evans is forced to make an ill-fated deal with Miami mob boss Ben Diamond (Danny Huston) to ensure the success of his glitzy establishment." |
