Quote : | "Duke Is In The Terrelle Pryor Business
Ian CohenPosted Jan 7th 2008 11:26PM by Ian Cohen Filed under: ACC, BCS, NCAA FB Recruiting, Duke Football There's no doubt that Duke pulled off a coup of sorts with the hiring of David Cutcliffe this offseason. For the most part, it looked like they'd have to resort to a lesser retread (Dorrell, Gailey) or someone completely unproven. You could say that Cutcliffe is a retread, albeit one that's viewed favorably since he suffered at the axe of a ridiculously shortsighted Ole Miss program stricken with delusions of grandeur.
For just about any recent hire, there's a certain "new coach smell" if you will. Particularly in the ACC, introducing a change at the top can lead to a instant jolt in recruiting luck (see: Al Groh and Chuck Amato in 2002, Butch Davis this year). While the future certainly looks bright(er) for Duke, no one would ever possibly believe that they'd receive an official visit from Terrelle Pryor, #1 QB recruit, "next Vince Young" and recently spotted wearing either an Ohio State decal on his helmet or a Michigan sweater (depending who you talk to).
But it's true- Pryor is obviously a student of the game, since he knows that Cutcliffe is best known for coaching up Peyton and Eli Manning while OC at Tennessee and head coach at Ole Miss. Pryor not only wants a piece of that; he's reportedly received offers to play basketball as well at North Carolina and NC State, and wouldn't you know- he'd like to see how he fits in with Coach K. We've seen this type of thing before ... at UNC, that is. Ronald Curry played QB for a couple of inconsistent seasons and shot Chris Dudley-esque numbers from the free throw line. Julius Peppers was a freak on the gridiron and an enforcer (particularly towards the end of the game) on the hardwood. As far as Duke goes, well, you're either a McDonald's All-American or a scrappy white dude willing to wave a towel at the end of the bench with five other scrappy white dudes. " |
NO WAY he goes there, but just getting a visit from maybe the #1 player in the country is impressive1/8/2008 11:39:59 AM |

i think he stated during the all american game that hes not going to duke, he just wants to visit cutcliffe to see how hes doing. Pretty neat that duke gets the #1 player in the nation on campus in football though 1/8/2008 11:41:35 AM |

I can't remember exactly what rank he was, but he was in the top 10. I want to say he was like #5.
[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 2:55 PM. Reason : scout.com has him at #9, http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=1200916] 1/8/2008 2:53:07 PM |

As much as I hate to post in a Jaybee thread...
Cutcliffe is a great coach. I thought all along he'd be a steal for Duke and is really an A+ hire, especially if Duke makes a financial commitment to football. 1/8/2008 4:23:26 PM |
