Well he's an ex-roommate now, so that is what I did, but here's the story.

I live in a very nice apartment and decided last year to get a roommate. Guy is kind of an odd cookie. He's got those really super fundamentalist Christian views (like old testament law). He's 27 and has never quite "made it" in life yet. Has lots of things he's tried to do and never followed through with like law school and various sales jobs. He's also a virgin, which at 27 no matter your religious convictions would fuck you up in my opinion. I noticed over the months he's super secretive. He locks his bedroom door and bathroom door (which is public). In his bathroom he tapes his drawers shut to see if anyone was in his bathroom. Anyhow I always used the bathroom because it's a 2 bathroom place and sometimes mine was occupied and I really needed to go. I was in there the day I kicked him out when I noticed an odd placed mirror. It had never struck me as odd but it dawned on me it was about chest level. I investigated, because really who needs a mirror at chest level? I discovered it was nailed to the wall and I looked at it closer to realize it was a two way mirror. He cut about a 6 inch square in the wall through the bathroom to his bedroom and covered it with a two way mirror. I was infuriated, and promptly had the locks changed (like within 30 minutes of finding it). I called him and told him that was the creepiest shit I've ever seen and I wanted him to come get all his shit and I had changed the locks. He tried to say it was something to do with his relationship, and I said I don't care you cut a 6 inch hole in the wall in my uber pimp, nice apartment I want you to get your shit and get out.

Anyhow he paid for damages and moved out the same day.

My questions: Did I over react? Do 27 year old virgins normally take out there sexual tension by putting up two way mirrors? It is conceivable to me the girlfriend knew about it and it was their way to not violate God's law by being in the same room naked and unmarried. Even still he cut a fucking hole in the wall. My apartment wanted to press charges against him. I talked them out of it.

Oh so he had a girlfriend?

And he used this mirror as a way to spy on her? Or do you think she knew about it too?

I mean I don't want to contact her if she knew about it then she'd just be embarrassed too.

either way, you said its a public restroom in your apt (i.e. common area bathroom)

so you should feel justified in protecting your guests...suppose your g/f was in there...he would be looking at more than an eviction if that happened to me)

Yeah I was luckily the only one using it. I believe a friend of mine or two had showered in there. He was never there, but I still wonder if there is video of my cock on the internet somewhere.

Cutting a hole in a wall is a definite violation of an apartment lease. I am guessing that the lease is in your name, so the apartment owners will hold you liable for its repair. You did the right thing by notifying the apartment owners of the damage immediately, otherwise both of you may have been removed or been charged.

To answer your question about overreacting, yes, I think you did. While the damage would have probably forced his removal anyway, you should have at least been adult enough to address it with him in person instead of calling him and telling him to leave.

I think you did the right thing.

I also had an "odd Christian ex-roommate" some years ago, but after reading that crazy stuff, my story isn't even worth telling.

He was out of town and I had the locks changed. I didn't want him around my cat or my parachutes while I was not in the apartment after seeing that.

I told my cat I was sorry if he was touched in a private place when I wasn't home.

AHA, iphotou thinks you overreacted.

Nah, but seriously, it sounds like your roommate may have some mental issues. Clinging to religion a bit too much, super secret/paranoid, not following through with any one goal, and this weird/creepy mirror thing.

Kicking him out/calling him a creepy fucker was not an overreaction. It was probably pretty normal. But maybe you should check in with him and somehow mention seeing somebody about getting some guidance in his life. Shit, he could probably go talk to a preacher or some shit. Behind closed doors, even a super conservative preacher would advise him to relax and get his dick wet...I'd hope.

I don't think you overreacted.
You don't know who's privacy may have been violated and he cut a damn hole in the wall.
I've seen people get the shit beat out of them for much less.

On the other hand, waiting to cool down before talking to him nicely wouldn't have been a bad idea. Maybe suggest ditching his religion or getting some counseling for whatever problems he had.

I'd prolly wait til he got home, beat the shit out of him, kick him out, then fixed the wall myself.

That piece of information is significant. Since he was out of town, yes you were justified in changing the locks so he could not enter the apartment unsupervised.

I knew him in high school but hadn't seen him in 10 years. He was a little odd in high school, but I'd of never thought this weird. He needed a place when he moved here to go to NC State and I just had a bunch of ex drama and figured having a roommate would be cool. I was going out a lot and figured I could use what he gave me in rent for booze

the only reason that iphotou doesnt thinks that you overreacted is because he identifies with your ex-roommate because...well they are both fucking creepy

you didnt overreact at all...regardless of any arrangement with this guy and his girlfriend a common bathroom shouldnt be fucked with in this way

After finding said hole in the wall did you check out the other odd things you mentioned? I would have immediately opened the drawers that were taped shut to see what he was hiding. I'm just curious. I'm sorry he molested your cat.

I'd have done the same.

I was raised in a uber religious family and turned out fairly normal. This guy has issues that go WAY beyond that.

OK I am not gonna purport to be a religious expert, but how in the flying fuck would be putting a creepy two way mirror in a bathroom skirt any of gods law? I always assumed the point of monogamy in a biblical sense was to protect the family unit and avoid out of wedlock pregnancy. If he is gonna take out sexual tensions, (which he clearly has) sneaking a peak at his girlfriend through the wall does not seem any better than seeing her change clothes in his room.

I am gonna go out on a limb and say the reason he cooperated, paid, and moved out immediately is because he did not want his stash of kiddie porn to get exposed or all the voyeur shit he recorded via his "ceiling cat" hole in the wall.

I hope this thread is still around when he gets rolled up on by Chris Hansen so I can say "told ya so".

The eviction = not legal in a civil sense

The voyeurism = not legal in a criminal sense

The kid technically moved out voluntarily, had he wanted to assert his rights to the apartment the cops would have let him in until an eviction order was issued. They just would have followed up by investigating him for being a perv, peeping tom etc.

I'm gonna agree with everyone else and say that you did right to get him packed up and out of there asap.
Although I dont think him considering himself a Christian has anything to do with this sort of action... It would seem to imply that there are much larger things that are wrong with him if he is putting up 2 way mirrors into bathrooms...
