^^^^My dad is coming into town Wednesday and he is hellbent on going to Angus Barn but I am trying to find somewhere better since I've heard it's not really any better than any other generic steakhouse

Although I've never been so I can't say from experience

elaine's in chapel hill is awesome. bonne soiree in CH is really good. There's alwways magnolia grille. But if your dad wants angus barn you should go there if he's never had it. Let him form his own opinion.

http://riochurrascaria.com/

Rio Churrascaria was pretty cool when I went there. It's not cheap but unlimited meat of whatever your preferred type = pretty damned good deal for thirty dollars. When I went there I had a blast, it was freakin' delicious.

I haven't been to Angus Barn, but I'm just putting this up because it's different than a traditional restaurant and it was damned good, better than Ruth's Chris in some aspects.

Angus Barn is really good, but it's also really expensive. It just depends on how much bang for your buck you're hoping to get out of your dining experience. I think it's a lot better than you're average steak house, but whether it's $15-20 better per plate, I'm not sure. If you're Dad isn't worried about money, then go for it. Otherwise there are better bargains to be had.

When Ruth Chris left their location on buck jones rd, the head chef or something bought the building and created Rays.

I love their bananas foster when they cook it in front of you. soo neato

I don't see how anyone can say this. I went for a company dinner not too long ago. The filet and cheesecake were probably the best I've ever had.

Ray's is pretty good the few times I've been there.

Angus Barn is always so crowded I can barely enjoy it.

First off, if you base how good a place's steaks are by having their filet, then you've already lost this one. Filets are easily the least flavorful cut of meat on the whole fucking cow.

On that note, Angus Barn is weak not because of their chef (he's actually a great chef) but because their menu has been the same for as long as i can remember. Restaurants are rarely goign to stay at the top if their menus can't change with the preferences of the public.

Lookign at Rey's menu, they only server tenderloin and strip cuts... which pretty much means they are pandering to idiot appetites. They also have Lobster tails listed as a Vegetairin Entree on their website, so my faith in the place is even less.

As formy suggestions?

JK's has a killer ribeye. I have heard only good things about 1705PRIME from people with palates i trust.

My main reason for going back to the Angus Barn time and time again is because of the quality of their service. The family of a friend of mine did me a huge favor a couple of years back and I took them out to dinner there. They messed up on her mom's order and wound up comping us the entire meal.

1705 Prime is incredible, I'd go there over any of the steakhouses except Capital City Chophouse - that one's good too. I also really love Sullivan's, but some people have the same complaints there that they do about Angus Barn.

The best part about Angus Barn is the chocolate chess pie. It's ridiculous.

Sullivans, Angus Barn, 2nd Empire are all overpriced for the food, and the food isn't that good.

Ding! I've never been to a place that's catered to me quite like the Angus Barn does/did. Bend over backwards service and above average food. Need an example...

Went to dinner about a month ago. Girl ordered steak medium. It came out well. Sent it back, came back rare. She was fine with rare, but waiter overheard this, brought the general manager/manager (whoever it is that's running it for van eure). Meal was comped, plus wine, plus flowers. Also, the same women liked the butter at Angus Barn (don't ask). Inquired about it and left with 4 boxes.

Makes me wish I had complained about my steak. Couldn't. It was probably the best I'd had there.

Also, second on the Chocolate Chess. It's killer.

I loooove some Sullivan's

Angus Barn was decent, it was just too crowded in there

I thought Ruth's Chris was the worst steak I've had in the area - out of all of the steakhouses we've tried

Honorable mentions: Carver's Creek, Rio Churrascaria, Stonewood. Porter's

I havent tried Capital City or the Peddler yet

me and allie will be checking out 1705 Prime for the first time this weekend, I'll report back our findings

Well that's because it's also one of the leanest parts of the cow which is a consideration to a lot of people. One restaurant portion of prime rib can easily be over a thousand calories just for the meat.

Also, a growing trend among nice steakhouses is an offering of a bone-in filet which offers amazing flavor and the tenderness that everyone wants to go along with it.
