Did anyone see him when he pissed Conan off last week?

He is so brash about his religious views. I find it immature and annoying.

His views on vaccines, gmos, and health professionals are completely idiocy, with no basis in any science or studies. He seems to be getting more intransigent with age.

At least Rush has the decency to admit he leans right. Maher is an extreme leftist that is dumb enough to claim he's a centrist libertarian.

The biggest difference I see between Rush and Maher is Maher actually invites people on his show with opposing viewpoints and has a (relatively) decent discussion with them. Just this season he had a doctor on to discuss this years flu vaccine and it's effectiveness, among others, and ultimately had to be mansplained too on how they decide which flu culture to emanate in the vaccine.

Compare that to Rush, whom in the rare occasions when a caller slips through that doesn't agree with him he just shouts them down, throws out some red herring, and cuts the call off.

It's like night and day.

that's the difference between talk radio and HBO, not Rush and Maher. Maher has gone off on guest speakers that don't agree with his views before.

If it weren't for the guest speakers on Maher, I'd never watch it.

So if it wasn't or the actual content of the show, you wouldn't watch it, wow.

What about Vice, which Maher produces, it's pretty dang good.

It's called Real Time with Bill Maher, not real time with intelligent guests that keep Bill Maher from rambling constantly about stupid shit. The guests aren't the headline of the show, but they're the only thing that make it tolerable.

^^^ so you refuse to give Maher any credit for a show that he has starred in, in one form or another, for 20+ years?

Seems like sour grapes that an opinionated TV personality's ideology doesn't perfectly align with your own.

^^it's more of his sarcastic condescending delivery that makes me dislike him. I don't agree with Bill O'Reilly or Jonathon Stewart on a lot of issues, but I enjoy their show because of their delivery.

It's his hypocrisy that has been turning me off to the show recently. he's quick to accuse other people of not looking at the science or having a non nuanced view, but for a seemingly growing number of issues, he only relies on his gut or bad science or no science. On the last show, they were bashing gmo food , and one guest pointed out there is no real evidence that demonstrates gmo food as unsafe, and bill and the other guests and a minority of the audience just Mock him. And the guest just sits their mostly quiet the rest of the time. Maher spear headed the one thing he claims to be against, which is reasonable people being shut down by idiots.

Larry Wilmore has been doing a MUCH better job of having a diverse set of guests on.

He's a comedian...

This is like when Tucker Carlson complained about Jon Stewart not doing his journalistic duties on a show that airs on Comedy Central.

1) he wasn't trying to be funny when he made these statements
2) Al Franken is a comedian... as is in congress
3) Kal Penn is a comedian... and works for the Obama admin
4) John Oliver is a comedian... and has been doing some of the best journalism recently
5) Ronald Reagan was an actor... then became president

He has a nationally recognized show, it's fair to call him out on idiotic statements. He's not really allowed to hide behind the "I'm a comedian!" line (not that he is, neither is Jon Stewart really) if he says something dumb. Especially when we have a measles outbreak, that's killing people.

One of his producers needs to talk some sense into him.

how is he not a comedian? He got his start doing stand up, which he continues to do to this day.

also I'm not sure where you are getting this stuff on his stance on vaccines, I watch the show every week and I don't recall any anti vaccination speak. I'm pretty sure he was clear that he is very much pro-measles vaccine, the only thing i can think of that may have been construed as "anti" was that he said there has not been any research done into whether or not the proliferation of vaccinations has any ill effects as it does in antibiotics, but he did not equate the two.

I do think the show has been in decline the last couple of seasons due to them bringing on more entertainment/comedy guests as the late introduced guest, and spending waaaay too much time with them talking about dumb shit instead of debating real issues with the panelists

His show is a roundtable discussion on current topics, not a stand up routine. If he wants to voice his opinions in such a format then he's going to have to accept being criticized when people find fault with them. This has nothing to do with his standup routine.

I'm pretty sure that Bill Maher's distrust for vaccinations is limited to the flu vaccine; he argues that the flu vaccine is ineffective.

George Carlin had nationally recognized stand up shows every two years on HBO...

It is entirely fair to call him out on idiotic statements. Just remember he's a comedian. The format of his show is pointing out the absurdity of elected officials and other people in the spot light. His entire show is a comedy show. Even when he does the round table he stops half way through to do shit like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCzTTKSHO-4

You guys should be directing your angst towards cable news networks, not shows on Comedy Central and HBO. It is neither of their jobs to deliver real, accurate or enlightening news. The only reason we see better "journalistic reporting" on there is because the current state of the media and government is so absurd you don't have to make anything up to have it be funny.

re: the original post from ^ about Maher's take on the flu vaccine

I don't watch the show, but as far as his argument, everyone gets a little wood on the ball every now and then. It's a dumb argument to make and only serves to feed the anti-vaccination crowd. If it lead to meaningful discussion and potential changes to the way flu vaccinations were determined/developed, then fine. But his argument is irresponsible for today's idiotic public.

C'mon man! The people in charge of the shit even tell you it's a statistics game and they get it wrong every so often. White knighting about the flu vaccine being ineffective for this year isn't really evidence of anything...
