Pool Maintenance Job Description
Reports to Operations and Maintenance Manager
Pool Maintenance Duties
• Receive a daily pool route that you will work.
• Check to see if the pump is running.
• Check the Color, Chemistry, and Clarity of the pool water.
• Complete the maintenance checklist.
• Daily cleaning of the pool deck at each pool on your route.
• Daily cleaning of the restroom at each pool on your route.
• Maintain pool Color, Chemistry, and Cleanliness at each pool on your route.
• Develop and maintain a friendly relationship with members of the pool.

During the winter you will be responsible for checking and cleaning your pools weekly and getting them ready for opening inspection.

Hours are 8:30-4:30, so if you have classes every day then it won't work but you can apply for a summer position. If you only have classes on certain days we do have part time positions.

Pay is competitive, typically in the $9/hour-$12/hour range depending on experience

I started out as a pool tech. The bathrooms is the least fun part, but its one of those things where if you do a little every day it never gets gross. The pools with lots of patrons where the bathrooms get really dirty usually have lifeguards, you would only be taking care of unguarded pools that are usually smaller.

Also, in addition to the pay are various bonuses and a commission program.

Someone asked me if they had to drive their own car. No, we have company trucks, thats why we require a clean driving record.

Are you interested in a position now or during the summer, what are you looking for?

Send me a pm with some more about your responsibilities as a lifeguard and manager so I can get an idea about your experience level. How much experience do you have in the pump room? What type of setup did they have? How many pools did you work at, i.e. are you comfortable in multiple pump rooms or do you just know the setup that you had there.

Just saying, I got $15-20/hr to do the same thing. Then again, my job started at 6-6:30AM.

From my experience:

This kind of job is easy and brainless. Go in, check water, clean up, check pumps, call the supervisor if something is wrong, etc etc.

You will almost never have any residents give you lip for doing your job. Everyone sees you and your water test chemicals box and gets out of the way, without complaining. If you tell everyone that they need to get out of the pool, they'll normally get out and thank you at the same time.

If you work in the summer, there is the potential for a hurricane or huge storm or some such to come through. If that happens, your week is shot.

The work is moderately labor intensive. Its not back-breaking and you're probably not going to be sore ever, but you will put your muscles to use every now and then. It'll keep you active, and you might loose a pound or three over the course of a summer. The main thing is you're going to be out in the sun a whole bunch. Invest in a hat.

Also, invest in some clothes you don't like.

Also, get about 3-4 pairs of cheap dish gloves. You know, those big yellow gloves that go up half way to your elbow. You'll need them. I'm not talking about poo here (though that may show up), I'm talking about the general gunk that gets washed into the traps and strainers. That is some of the nastiest stuff you'll ever see.

If you don't like mice, spiders, or frogs, do not take this job.

Also, getting the C.P.O certificate is one of the easiest things I've ever done, no need to worry about that being difficult.

i tried doing this last summer with american pools, and it was so horribly run i quit after three weeks. i ran a private country club's pool, and there was the ever present power struggle between my company, the country club, and what my CPO license told me i needed to do.

I did this work for a couple years for a man back home (winston-salem) who didnt run a big company, but only managed about 10-12 pools. MUCH MUCH better experience there.

In regards to Stover: Stover was paid a flat rate. He drove his own vehicle and paid for gas. We experimented with paying a few people flat rates but the quality was never as high as the hourly guys. We provide a truck, gas, have bonuses, have a commission program, and offer paid benefits for full time employees. Stover's pay was in line with flat rate pay, and on par with our starting salaries.

In regards to AKSnoopy: The pool at the club he works is run by a different division that is managed separately from the maintenance division.

I was the lifeguard\manager\and CPO at a neighborhood pool.

Your division may be greatly run; I didn't say it wasn't.

But I was told repeatedly and on a daily basis that I would be getting someone to come lifeguard for me for a couple of days a week and a month later I was still working 7 days a week for 7 hours a day.

I finally just stopped showing up

i worked for pool pros summer 2003...it rained almost that entire summer...the pools were always empty...best summer i ever had
