the point is to help give more proof to theories... they say it will explain the correlations between alot of things if it works, but I haven't worried about physics in over 4 years, so it's a lil over my head

mini blackholes would be awesome, we could throw all our garbage into them and eliminate waste dumps.

You obviously didn't pay very much attention. No one knows what will happen. The point of supercolliders is to cause events that we can't observe in nature in a place where we can tell what the hell is going on. No one knows if it can produce MBH's or if they would dissipate by the entirely theoretical Hawking radiation. Understanding these processes is fundamental to understanding the origins of matter and the universe.

Isn't that large asteroid supposed to hit the Earth before then? That may render all of this irrelevant.

Well according to my sister, the Mayans say that we all die in 2012 anyway. If thats the case then we should just go for broke with particle accelerators for 4 years.

the mayan prediction for 2012 is the onset on a new era. many believe it to be the beginning of chaos...and some believe this is when we will move into the next big leap of human evolution.

Well, if any mini-black holes are created I think we should send an armed team lead by MacGuyver into it. It's our safest bet.

All I know is doing crap with the LHC would be one of my dream jobs. I have been keeping up with its production and the status of the different measurement equipment in different locations in the ring for quite a while. Looking forward it being fired up.
