this thread made me listen to the minor threat discography, which then led me to listen to rites of spring.

which then also led to me trying to find the guy picciotto quote that really hits home that i had heard before. and thanks to youtube, it was quite easy:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kOuBonIyH0&NR=1

i wont transcribe the whole quote...but this is the meat and potatoes:

Quote :
""what happened with hardcore...is that things get so ritualized...theyre no longer powerful, they lose their power and theyre not dangerous anymore. they dont excite people. they dont move people anymore. they just become some kind of a traditional thing which people can just slip on the clothes and slip on an attitude. but for me its a life thing...and if its gonna be a life thing for me it has to always be moving forward""

i wish i could make so many bands today watch that documentary. bands that do nothing new, piggyback off other bands success to write boring, unoriginal music, and for all the talented bands that hold themselves back because they are afraid to try something new and fail.
