If you were to purchase a messenger bag, which brand you get? $200 is approximately the price limit. I want something durable that will last many years.
Timbuktu?
Tumi?
Keen?
Osprey?
Other?

^ No, hate gays but love to accessorize.

And yes, it must hold a laptop and look a little more mature than a backpack.

otherwise, i like banana's leather messenger bags...or if you're going for something with a balistic nylon feel, crumpler.

Get a leather one for sure. (My vote goes for Fossil... but I don't really know the brands you listed very well)

www.fossil.com

Top 3 (IMO):
1. Graham Messenger
2. Dakota Messenger
3. Clapton Messenger

www.wilsonsleather.com
Also, I love my leather jacket from Wilson's leather. I've had it for atleast 8 years now, and it still looks great. Wilson's is having a "Final Clearance Sale" right now, so you could probably get a really nice leather messenger for a great price. After a quick glance online, it looks like they're averaging about $60 for $100-$150 bags.

It's not a murse if you sling it over your head. Only if you carry it on one shoulder.

And there is a big difference between cyclist messenger bags and your typical bookbag messenger bags. A cyclists one will sit really low and wrap part of the way around your hips so that it actually stays put when you're cranking on a bicycle. The ones like alibaby posted will not stay on your back when you're on a bike. They will slide around to the front and be in the way of your legs. Just an FYI if you're considering something for bicycling.

For nicer looking, go with Jack Spade.

For bomb-proof, I would say Timbuktu.

patagonia makes a really nice bag imo

two sizes i think

and if it breaks or gets wornout, send it back and you'll get a new one (95% of the time, or they'll repair it, but ive never had them do that)

that's actually with all patagonia products, and most people dont know that

yeah it's for timbuk2 bags.

all the manufacturers you listed are durable.

timbuk2 and keen are two brands that are highly rated.

I'm looking for a bag that can be worn as a messenger bag, AND that can also be worn like a traditional bookbag / backpack. Do they make such a product? If so what brand / model is best?

i got a custom timbuk2 messenger bag

i LOVE it-- pretty much the best purchase in the last 12 months

i use it at work and get tons of compliments (mostly on my color combo-- it stands out in its own way-- can't get too crazy in corporate america)

i got the extra padded strap on for it and it makes a huge difference, no matter how much shit i have packed in the bag it sits comfortably on my shoulder

i got a crumpler for christmas and i love it. get one of those.

edit: also look at freitag - i saw a few of them when i was in europe. mainly cool cause they used recycled truck tarps, not sure about anything else regarding them though. but definitely look at crumpler.

I'd kind of like to get one of these, since my laptop bag isn't big enough to carry much of anything besides the laptop itself. $1-200 seems like an awful lot to spend though.

J.Crew makes a great messenger bag, if you are willing to pay a little bit. I got mine a few Christmases ago and its a great for a carry-on bag or overnight trips.

Very similar, if not exactly the same, as the one in that picture from '24'

Messenger bags will mess up your back. It's not the weight that does it, it's the imbalance. Use a wheeled airport luggage thing, there are some really light ones.

So i'm looking for a bag to replace my large back pack that i carry to school. I also want to be able to carry it around while hanging out and not be too obtrusive. Been looking at timbuk2 and mountain hardwear bags. Stuck between these two:

http://www.rei.com/product/772295

http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/laptop/laptop-messenger-style/commute-slim

Anyone have any experience with these? Everyone tells me to go timbuk2.

^i agree for larger bags. I'm not trying to carry that much. I have a 10" netbook and maybe some books.

i've got both. the mountain hardware is good if you carry a lot of shit and have to have it attached to your bag as it has a lot of nooks and crannys that the other bag doesn't.

the timbuk2 bag fit some stuff, your laptop, and some other crap.

i've had the timbuk2 bag for a decade now and it's never let me down. the mountain hardware bag is a recent addition so the jury is still out. nothing bad about it. quality is good.

i will say this, if you are a simple person who doesn't need a lot of bullshit and is looking for a bag that is functional without being complicated, the timbuk2 bag is your best bet.

After reading this thread, I conclude that some people have some insecurity about their sexuality, and an unfocused hatred towards gays. All this because of a bag to carry your stuff.

Get this one:

It is well constructed, has padding if you want to carry a lap top and doubles as an awesome range bag. Also has a lifetime warranty.
