[ link ] [ /link ] is horribly outdated. It doesn't allow for creativity in link presentation (i.e. google.com has to look like http://www.google.com and nothing else). In addition, super long links either have to be tiny url'd or they just stretch across the screen.
Most message boards now have the following:
this is my url
which would come out looking like this: this is my url
For example, and to kill the thread, let's say I wanted to link to a driving route. Normally on TWW I would have to say:
Quote : | " Hey guys, here's my driving route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=11449256718027251192,35.810600,-78.831340%3B9329050204052000135,35.872872,-78.862873&saddr=intersection+of+maynard+road+and+harrison+avenue+cary+nc&daddr=35.811549,-78.832741+toavis+Dr+%4035.872872,+-78.862873+to:intersection+of+page+road+and+slater+road,+durham+nc&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1,2&dirflg=h&sll=35.841334,-78.806992&sspn=0.084328,0.160675&ie=UTF8&om=0&ll=35.839942,-78.801842&spn=0.08433,0.160675&z=13
Cool! " |
Fixing URL making would allow me to do this:
I'm sure you can see the benefit.
Please implement this, I'm sure it's dreadfully easy and it would save some headache.

^Yeah and since most of us aren't premie, we can't do that third example.
And notice how the second link (don't edit it) shows that using [ link ] sometimes fucks up

i dont think the link tag is necessarily outdated
but i do agree that some type of automatic tinyurl thing would be nice 1/31/2008 1:08:52 PM |

i agree too...though i bet the rickrolling/trickery will increase as a result

not really talking about automatic tinyurl (thats more complicated). he's proposing that something be built to allow non-premies have a way to make ahref links.
i like the idea, but i'm not sure the admins would want to spend time building something which would provide a premie feature to non-premie people.]1/31/2008 1:09:39 PM |

I don't see a pressing need for html style links or auto tinyurl links, but link shortening to prevent super wides pages would be nice. 1/31/2008 2:29:15 PM |
