I have 3 faucets that trickle water. One is an outside spigot that is welded to copper pipes. The other two are bath faucets with knobs. I am assuming these might just need new washers? My house was built in 83 and all this shit is original. 2/5/2008 5:48:30 PM |

Can you replace the washer in a spigot? Those things are only a couple of bucks at Lowes. You could probably cut the copper with a pipe cutter and find a replacement with a pressure fitting if you don't want to solder. The best bet is to solder the new one on though. A propane torch is probably $25 and you'll need a few copper joints to practice with before you do the real thing. 2/5/2008 5:57:41 PM |

I'm still a fan of a soldered fitting. It really is not hard to do. drop 15 bucks on a propane torch, some solder, flux, a sheet of emry cloth, a short length of copper tubing and a fitting or two and try it before doing the actual repair. in a short time you will have lerned a new skill, and saved some money in the long run. Look it up on the net or invest in "black and decker's complete guide to plumbing" you can get it at B&N. this book has already saved me hundreds of $$ in three years.
hope this helps. 2/5/2008 7:30:30 PM |

compression fittings installed correctly are not a problem at all. I had to redo a lot of copper water lines in my house and I didn't sweat any of them because they were in tough locations. I also used some Pex here and there and have had no problems. 2/5/2008 8:31:54 PM |

just write down the make/model of your faucets and spigot and go to any hardware store. rebuild kits are readily available. 2/5/2008 8:40:27 PM |

Here's what I know about plumbing: it sucks and get expensive very quickly. In the span of less than a year, my parents and now my roommate have both needed plumbing work that required the driveway (and in my parents' case, half the front lawn) to be torn up at great expense. 2/6/2008 3:43:45 PM |

yeah, i'm a plumbing contractor. i need some more specifics/details before i can give you any advice though. like brand names, descriptions, etc.
compression fittings, especially used on hard copper, are junk. why people are willing to risk ruining their whole hose just to save a few bucks is beyond me. 2/6/2008 3:47:24 PM |
