If Huckabee would some how drop out right now, securing the nomination for McCain, how much would that head start on the National Campaign help while the Obama and Clinton are still duking it out?

[Edited on February 7, 2008 at 3:17 PM. Reason : head start dammit]

Playing Devil's advocate here:

What if McCain locking up the election causes him to lose all press time and it is all about Obama/Clinton and people vote for them based on media coverage?

Huckabee's in it for another week, at the most, I think.

Beyond that, though, I don't see it as being as much of a head start as other people seem to...

Anyone who saw video from CPAC today knows that he's still got a lot of work to do with conservative voters, so I think he's got to take some time to do that. It'd be much easier for him to do that if there was a Democratic nominee--and without one, he's going to have to try and make inroads on his own.

Maybe he does that by naming his VP super-early...I dunno.

Also, he's got to fundraise his ass off. None of the Republicans has even come close to having the money to Obama and Clinton have raised and, since I'd imagine that McCain won't risk going against Clinton with a publicly financed campaign (I seemed to remember him and Obama talking about it)....he's got to step his game up considerably.
