I tried to post in my old thread from last NOV but it wouldn't let me...But, I never took the plunge and bought a new laptop, and I recently started looking again. I was hoping to get some fresh opinions, my current computer is getting slower and slower.
I start my full-time job in June, so in all honestly, after I start making a little bit of money, I'll probably get another computer. I'm looking for this to last 1 -2 years, mostly use this for music, internet, etc (I don't make videos or play a whole lot of new games).
I know these are cheapies (and pretty similar), but I'm curious from a value for the money perspective. I've heard horror stories about Windows Vista. And would a Dell be built considerably better than an Acer for the money? Here are the specs:
Dell Inspiron 1520: $774 *Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 (1.6 GHz/533Mhz FSB/1MB cache) *Windows XP *2GB Share Dual Channel DDR2 at 677 MHz *Glossy Widescreen 15.4 inch (1280x800) *Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 *250 GB SATA HD *6-cell Primary Battery and 9-cell additional Lithium Ion Battery *only getting the 1 yr mail in warranty since I don't really plan to keep it all that long...bad idea?
Acer Aspire AS4720-4199: $549.99 *Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 (1.60 GHz) *14.1 inch WXGA *2 GB DDR2 *Windows Vista Home Premium *120 GB HD *Intel GMA X3100 *6-cell Lithium Ion *8X Super Multi DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer support
I'm kind of thinking anything will seem much better than my Compaq Presario 2100: 448 MB of RAM and AMD Athlon XP2400+ 1.05 GHz, 40 GB HD... 2/10/2008 11:32:42 PM |

that's just they divide the hard drive up for you. I'm pretty sure you can do it yourself, so save some money and don't let them do it. 2/11/2008 12:39:01 AM |

i may actually go with the 1400.
anyone have experience with this model?
all the reviews ive read seem to say its a bit bigger and heavier than theyd like, but compared to my 8lb laptop now, im sure it will seem much lighter. 2/11/2008 1:11:48 AM |
