1: 3x Intel SR1200 Dual-Processor 1U Rackmount Servers
These are the same model Intel servers used by a lot of hosting and colocation companies as managed machines. They have an excellent reputation for reliability and ease of use. They'd make great web/database servers, and of course are excellent for colo!

I don't have the drive caddies for these machines (they were unfortunately pulled along with the hard drives for security reasons), but they're inexpensive to replace ([link]http://www.deal-stop.com/CSIN105_INTEL-HOT-SWAP-DRIVE-CARRIER.lmsp?refer=froogle">This site for example). Alternatively, the drive backplanes are standard SCA2 connectors, and drives are easily held in place with a small amount of double-sided tape.
I also have one of these that takes standard IDE drives instead of SCSI, but that's tentatively spoken for. If that doesn't go through it'll be available as well.
$150 each, $260 for both
2: Salient 48 Drive FC-AL Array Setup, 1.7TB Capacity
This system is a fully configured hardware RAID platform, with three 12-Drive Salient JBOD shelves attached to one SS-1202-FC-RAID 12-Drive Salient shelf configured with dual active hardware raid controllers. This system supports full hot-failover cache concurrent operation, with RAID levels of 1, 0, 0+1, 3, 5, 10, 30, and 50. This would be an excellent choice for high-availability database or data storage systems, and its tremendous expandability allows it to scale to any needed capacity.
Since 1.6" Fibre Channel drives are so cheap on eBay, you could easily replace the drives in this system to get a ridiculously huge array. The built-in RAID systems can handle multiple sizes and combinations of drives in various LUN configurations, and its all done transparently of the OS. Just plug it up to your server or desktop and it will show up as one huge disk! Using optical cables you can have it as far away from the host system as needed.

3: Dell Powervault 136T SDLT Tape Library
This massive storage library would be excellent for periodic backups, especially with the way hard drive capacity has skyrocketed. Now there IS a way to back up all that important data and store it securely! Great for large video files or data/image collections, or for backing up the hard drives of an entire office's worth of equipment on a regular basis.

Heh, I have paperwork/receipts for all of the equipment . . . . none of it is "hot".

how much power does the dell tape thing draw?
does it actually have 14.4tb in it?
i may buy it.
good for data storage that isn't accessed but by 1 person? 32MB/sec would be plenty.
