Did you like it? Would use suggest one over the other?
Tried it once or twice and threw it out?
I am tired of buying (or rather, forgetting to buy) tampons.
For the guys, this is what it is. Remember, you have been warned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cup 2/15/2008 12:15:22 AM |

I have been seriously considering getting one of these. Oddly enough, it was my brother that told me about them. He hangs out with his university's women's rugby team, and claims they RAVE about them. 2/15/2008 12:50:21 AM |

Yeah, I put off buying one because I was afraid it might not work well with high activity levels.
Guess that myth is busted. I heard about it from bicyclists, but didn't know if they worked well with other kinds of activity. 2/15/2008 1:03:11 AM |

You know... I cannot think of a good reason that I've put off getting one. After talking it over with my brother, I was really excited about it. Talked to some close female friends and my partner and still thought it was a good idea.
According to DivaCup's website, they are sold at the Earthfare on Moncreiffe Rd. Fuck it. Going to pick one up tomorrow. 2/15/2008 1:28:44 AM |

I supress my menstrual cycle completely so I don't use any products, but I am acquainted with several women who use the diva cup and really liked it once they got the hang of it.
It's worth giving a try. It's cost friendly, environmentally friendly, and healthier than other girl products. 2/15/2008 11:20:25 AM |

Thought about it. Seriously.
I'm pretty tired of the rest of it frankly (the plastic parts of regular pads I can't stand, i really dont like the adhesives, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm not sensitive to the chemical crap in them), and the fact this is more eco-friendly is only an added bonus.
I was also looking into other options though - cloth pads - used to be on Nuva Ring and it nearly drove me bonkers at times and i've never been able to tolerate using a tampon. I can't decide which grosses me out more though - the whole subject is one I dont wanna talk about but since you brought it up... 2/15/2008 12:02:37 PM |

It's a little daisy. Sorta lame. You can see it in this image:
Quote : | "used to be on Nuva Ring and it nearly drove me bonkers at times" |
It doesn't bother me at all. The Diva Cup is a little different, since you wear it lower down in the vagina. But it does sorta take a little practice to put in, 'cause you have to squeeze the cup in half.

Hot, soapy water. Hell, you can even boil it if you think it's necessary (it's medical-grade silicone). But I don't think I'd put it in the dishwasher anyway... 'cause that's weird.

Tried to get my fiancee to use these for environmental reasons and because she's sensitive to every other method, but she says it seems like too much trouble. Same reason she refused to use the ring. 2/15/2008 1:20:43 PM |

No idea. I figured I don't have any place arguing with her, though, since I'm not the one having to put stuff in my vag. If she has to bleed once a month, I'm gonna let her deal with it as she sees fit. 2/15/2008 1:24:21 PM |

I bet your hands get pretty nasty taking this thing in and out. 2/15/2008 1:31:05 PM |
StillFuchsia All American 18941 Posts user info edit post |
^^You only have to take it out every three weeks (and put in a new one a week later): the ring is ridiculously low-maintenance.
V That's lucky, mine is a full seven days. In any case, no, your hands don't get messy putting in or removing the cup, really. The blood goes into the cup, so when you take the cup out, your hand doesn't get covered in blood if you pinch it and remove it without spilling.

It's not necessarily during your period. Mine finishes the day before I have to put the new one in. But I think he was referring to the cup. 2/15/2008 1:42:05 PM |

According to what I've been told, you can really make a mess with those things if you don't know how to take it out without spilling it. But once you know what you're doing, it's clean and easy breezy.
You clean them like anything else. Some girls like to soak them in order to sterilize them. And I don't think that cleaning it or taking it in and out should be a big deal. You can wear them 12 hours, so you should be able to plan things so that you're doing it in the privacy of your own home. 2/15/2008 1:44:04 PM |

Way cheaper. The diva cup is $23 shipped, and they are supposed to last for 10 years or something. I figure that I'll probably leave it on the top of the toilet and the cat will knock it in and flush it at some point (or something else equally random) but anything beyond a year and it's still way cheaper.2/15/2008 3:48:13 PM |

If anyone wants to try it out without having to buy the $25 one, there are disposable ones available under the brand Instead. I picked some up yesterday (at CVS, not sure if all drugstores have them) and like them, but it seems like it will take a little getting used to. It was $8 for a pack of 14 that each last for 12 hours. 2/16/2008 1:05:19 PM |
