Is there any way to get a game to play on your computer if your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements? Specifically, I am wondering if there is anyway to get Medieval 2: Total War to run on my computer. It meets all requirements except for the graphics card. It says that a 128MB is needed and I only have a 64 MB. Everything else exceeds the requirements.

Is there anyway I can get this game to work or would it even be worth it to try?

Yeah, but some games don't even load if you don't meet the min requirements so there wouldn't be anyway to change the settings if you can't even load the game to begin with. I don't wanna buy the game if I won't even be able to load it.

Get a new graphics card. Lots of retailers sell them. Check newegg. I'm sure there are plenty of sub $50 video cards that can meet the min requirements. It'll look like shit, but it'll run. For a good low/mid card are the 8400/8600gt's. 8600gt's can be had for 80 or so and play pretty good for the value.

Btw, you should know by now how TWW and the internet works. Getting all mad and make ass-hat comments back will never work. Take the advice, c&c, or bad comments and move on. And seriously, if you are an engineer... you should be figuring shit like this for your self out and get a new pc dammit. Shit my diamond viper 770d 128mb tnt2 on my old p3 system is like from 1999.

I know how graphics cards work. I've even replaced a few in my day. But those were in PCs and I only have a laptop and I don't feel like fucking my laptop up because I was trying to do something I don't know how to do (replace a GC in a laptop). If I lost this, I'd be totally fucked. Your other suggestion of just getting a new computer wouldn't really work because I don't have enough money to get one. I mean, if I really, really wanted one I could probably afford it, but there are other things I need more urgently.

You're the only one acting like a douche bag. You failed to mention if it was a desktop or laptop nor did you specify your hardware components. And seriously, you acting like a brat doesn't really help your case. rufus' comment wasn't insulting, just stating the obvious. Those system minimums are greatly exaggerated in terms that they are already very lenient on the types of machines they will run on. To play games with a decent frame rate or any decent gaming experience, you'd multiply the min requirements by 2x or 3x or meet the recommended requirements.

And since it is a laptop with only 64mb of memory, I'd wager a guess to say that your laptop is more than 3 or 4 years old, in which case, the gpu is not upgradeable. The only recourse would be to get a new laptop or desktop to actually run this game. You can build a pretty decent gaming rig for about 600-800 bucks now days.

Dell Inspiron 6000. It's a little over 2 years old. 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4. 1GB RAM. 64 MB ATI Radeon X300. Certainly nothing special when I got it and even less so now. Contrary to popular belief (because you guys don't fucking know me at all) I do know a decent bit about computers. I can run Rome: Total War on it with low settings and it's fine. The hardest I put it through is running Civilization IV which I don't always feel like it's capable of running. I didn't really expect to be able to play Medieval 2, I just wanted to see how it plays because I've never even played it before.

I didn't think my question was particularly stupid. I'm sure there have been much more stupid questions asked here. I honestly didn't think I was going to get made fun of for asking that particular question, but lo and behold the assholes are everywhere. I know I'm an easy target because of my user name, but seriously, that guy was trying to be a dick and I have no qualms calling him out on it.

As for the video card thing. I don't have any idea how software is run through one so I don't know what process the card goes through in determining whether or not it can run the game. I didn't know if there was any software glitch or trick you could use to get it to actually run the game if it otherwise wouldn't. Hence my question. I don't feel it was deserving of the snarky answer I got.

The x300 was not really meant to play games. While its better than onboard video, it's not much better. It's viewed as an entry level graphics gpu for people who'd be willing to pay a small price to be able to run graphical apps, such as games. But the reality is that the x300 is very very under powered for anything newer than 2004 games.

Rome: total war is a much older game based on an older gaming engine compared to the new medieval 2 game. Graphics is a bit better, but remember, rome came out in 2004, medieval 2 in 2006. Again, this thread could have been a lot better if you handled it better. Half of the responses in here are because of the way you are acting. If you react to bullies, they'll just bully you some more.
