Look, if after a successful slave revolt in Haiti, they compensated foreign slave owners then why shouldn't Cuba be expected to compensate foreign owners of expropriated cars, houses, factories, and farms?

It doesn't take much, just pay 10% of a low estimated 1960 value to the U.S. government, let them work out who gets it.

while this deserved a harsh reactions in the 1960; this is just absurd. I am sure the economic impact of the US embargo has cost Cuba more than what they gained during the nationalization of all those businesses in the 60's. If we expect Cuba to do this maybe the US gov't should consider taking the lead by offering reparations for all the oil and gold profits we made by herding the native americans off their lands during the 1800's.

Right! I completely forgot. The statute of limitations has expired! Even if Cuba had U.S. assets today, victims could no longer sue. As such, I am convinced; the statute of limitations has expired, the embargo should be lifted. In fact, it should have been lifted decades ago.

But the embargo was justified for the first twenty years. Cuba could have easily paid a pittance and gotten the embargo lifted at any time; but it was principle, Castro hated Americans, so Americans had no choice but to maintain the embargo for a set period of time.

I recently learned that America is one of only two countries that did not compensate slave owners for the end of slavery. History is fascinating, isn't it?
