So, I have one stick of RD ram that I got from Newegg for $250. I didn't realize that it wasn't a matched pair, so I let it sit until I got money to get another stick. And I decided I'd rather get a new computer than upgrade this crappy one.
I really don't know where to sell this or what to do with it. I stuck it on craigslist, but its kind of a specialty thing. Does anyone here use this kind of ram? I don't even really know what to put in the ad about it.
Its a 512MB Samsung PC800-40ns Non-ECC RDRAM RIMM . Or something.
Can anyone give me some insight please? 2/19/2008 3:25:47 PM |

so lemme get this straight, you have frugal in your username, but you just paid $250 for a single stick of old RAM?
send that RAM back (get an RMA), and get a new computer (or post around in classifieds looking for RD Ram.) 2/19/2008 3:43:37 PM |

yeah, $250 for a 512 stick makes me cringe
RDRAM wasn't a good idea in 2000 and it's not a good idea today either 2/19/2008 3:54:32 PM |

eBay might not be a bad idea. I have bought RAM off of there before. 2/19/2008 3:57:01 PM |

theres no sense in spending money on a system that old when far superior hardware is available for cheap (unless you can get a great deal on some RDRAM in classifieds or something...but thats not all that possible cause the stuff is pretty rare) 2/19/2008 4:09:52 PM |

you can buy a crimm. RD ram does not require a matched pair, just both channels of the array populated. RD, like the dreamcast, was just too far ahead of its time. 2/19/2008 4:20:31 PM |

Hmm, really?
I'm guessing I just have a really pricey piece of history in my desk.
I think I am just going to buy a new computer when I get the money, instead of bothing with this crap.
Thanks, Wolf web. 2/19/2008 6:28:50 PM |

sell it on ebay, i sold 2x256 (i found in an old dell someone threw away) for $120 about a year ago, it's still getting a pretty good price because it's so rare, or return it if you are still within the return period
