Iron chef America blows in comparison to the old iron chef though Alton Brown makes it almost worth watching

Good Eats, definitely. I <3 Alton Brown. (No Homo)
I like Iron Chef America, not as much as the Japanese version, but it's still a good show. They need to get a little more adventurous with the secret ingredients though. Plus I've not yet seen a battle with the new dude (can't remember his name).
Definitely like Ace of Cakes as well, Everyday Italian is nice to look at , and I'd watch Guy's Big Bite if it wasn't on at such a stupid time.

I just like watching the network itself. It's the one channel I go to when there is absolutely nothing on.

I like Good Eats and Unwrapped, and if I'm folding laundry or something and Ace of Cakes is on I usually watch it for a few minutes just to look at the inventive things they create.
I miss Ready, Set, Cook

Good Eats, Feasting on Asphalt, and Dinner Impossible. Iron Chef and Ace of Cakes on occasion, but not really that devoted to those anymore. Everything else is eh... except when I hear the phrase "Yummo!" which makes my skin crawl for some reason. 2/21/2008 12:27:15 AM |

'Dinner: Impossible' chef is eating his own untrue words
Quote : | "Among some of the stories Irvine has shared: He is a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. The queen of England gave him a castle. He's chummy with Prince Charles. He received a bachelor's degree in food and nutrition from the University of Leeds.
None of that is true, according to the St. Petersburg Times, which investigated each of Irvine's claims and a few others.
On Tuesday, Irvine's biography was no longer posted on the Food Network's Web site. In an e-mail sent to The News Journal, a Food Network spokesperson said: 'It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences. We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com.'" |

I got really into The Next Iron Chef (reality series) but I don't really like Iron Chef. I think a better competition would involve more than two chefs, and not cooking for judges. Maybe something like Dinner Impossible meets Challenge. 2/21/2008 11:27:16 AM |

I read an article awhile back saying that on Iron Chef America, the guest chef chooses the Iron Chef he wants to go against way in advance, something like 3 months, and when they film, only that Iron Chef is there and the others are just silhouettes. Also, they are given three ingredients as to what the possible secret ingredient is (months ahead of time). The chefs then make up a shopping list as to things that they'll need to make their dishes. So even before they reveal the "secret ingredient" the chefs know what it is based on what has been bought for them. It kind of took the excitement out of it for me, even though it still must be pretty difficult to cook everything in the hour they have. If I can find the link to it, I'll post it. It was one of the challenge chefs (the one who battled Bobby Flay in the ribeye secret ingredient) giving an interview about the whole process.

They explained that in that "inside kitchen stadium" or whatever it was called special that they did, but I thought they said 5 possible ingredients. I think the original Japanese version did the same thing.2/21/2008 2:30:04 PM |

Um. . .Food Network for starters:
Quote : | "In an e-mail sent to The News Journal, a Food Network spokesperson said: 'It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences. The extent to which Irvine's resume was allegedly embellished is significantly damaging to the Dinner: Impossible brand, the Food Network brand, and Irvine as a brand, a chef, and a celebrity. And you majored in business?
In any event, I indicated that I liked Irvine's show, and I was just passing along the info. I mean, I'm not happy about it.2/21/2008 4:48:45 PM |

Food Network chef fired after resume fraud
Quote : | "NEW YORK (AP) — After rising to culinary stardom preparing impossible meals on his Food Network series, Robert Irvine has met an obstacle his kitchen prowess couldn't overcome — an embellished resume." |
Quote : | "Following the revelations, the network announced it would not renew Irvine's contract, though it would air the remaining episodes of the current season, the series' fourth." |
