I'm looking to get a strap to use with my truck. I know I want one without metal end. I'm thinking a good 3" x 30' Rated at 30,000lbs would be good for pretty much everything I'll need to do.

Is there a good place in Raleigh to buy one of these? I've been looking online, are they all about the same quality?

This is the one I have my eye on, but its $60.

^ yea I looked there, http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_22083_22083

Its even more though.

I got a $20 coupon for realtruck.com, so I dont think I cant beat that price. As long as someone thinks thats a decent strap...

i scored one of the ones that the power companies use on their 4wd bucket trucks. it was frayed a little and they were throwin it out. i cut it at the fray and lashed a loop back on the free end. that thing is money. more of a "snatchin rope" and stretches like a rubber band. as soon as you hit the brakes it comes back together and slowly pulls the stuck vehicles out. i have no clue where to actually buy one and the guy that gave it to me said they cost hundreds.

mine is round. about 1.5-2" diameter. works like a charm. i got a z71 sitting on the frame rails out with my old 4.3L s-10 blazer. they were giving me hell as i was hooking up to it. then they all laughed when i snatched hard, stretched it out, stomped the brakes and nothing happened. then it just eased up out of the hole and they bout shit their pants.

way heavier than that. i could never get it to coil up that tight. i've only got about half of the original length and i'd say it weighs over 10 lbs.

stored energy = not cool
think about it pulling out that chevy, then think about how fast it would/will be coming through the back glass

this is the same reason winch rope > winch cable

I've got a couple nice ones from http://www.expeditionexchange.com. they have reinforced loops, which I like. they also have lots of other high qaulity recovery gear.
