I have had to keep my cats caged up for the past few days outdoors because they keep loosing their collars. I don't want them to not have their tags while they are outside, so does anyone know of a good collar that won't come off?

I keep them as tight as they will go without being too tight, and my cats still find a way to get them off.

I use the ones with the plastic safety clips - that CAN come off if you pull VERY hard, but wont otherwise.

Never had my cat get out of hers unless it was too loose- so you could try that.

I agree with the plastic snaps (Safety Cat makes some, at Petsmart). If your cats like to squeeze in tight places, they'd be able to free themselves. (Better to lose a tag than have the cat get stuck or hurt.) They don't come off unless you really tug hard.

I have a Safety Cat collar on my indoor kitty, and one day she was without it. I didn't find the collar until I moved out of my apartment, and it was in between the folds of a sofa bed couch. I have no idea how she climbed in there, but I am so glad she wasn't stuck!

My cat almost choked to death under a chain link fence that it liked to crawl under because it's flea collar snagged on it. i wouldn't really recommend a tight collar on an outdoor cat. You'll want something loose or breakaway.

Why do you get pets, if it's too inconvenient and expensive for you to consider their health and saftey?

If "they're just cats" it's likely you get little to no enjoyment out of having them, and if that's the case I hope you've determined at this point that you're probably not cut out to own another, and will refrain from it in the future.

And yes, a nylon harness for an outdoor cat, that probably climbs trees and likes to hide in small, "safe" spaces was a WISE choice, kudos to you!

I wonder what he feeds them since $25 is too much for a collar - you know, a potentially one-time fee. If they're "just fucking cats," they must not get real cat food or real cat litter or real cat toys or real cat VETERINARY TREATMENT.

Fuck you for owning a living thing. You want a good collar that won't come off and has their info on it, you can fork out a few bucks. Spend the $$ for flea/tick MEDS and get a belt-style collar for their info. That won't loosen. Go to the SPCA, go to Petsmart, Walmart, Petco, the pet store up Wake Forest Rd near the Aldi.

There's your damn suggestions.

Alright, my intention wasn't to come off as offensive.

But 50 bucks will get both cats microchipped, its a great investment! For the rest of their lives you'll have peace of mind. No matter where they wander off too or if they loose another collar... all an animal control officer, an animal hospital or an animal shelter has to do is scan them, and they know where to find you!

I mean you obviously have a bachelor's degree and likely a decent job, what's a one time $50 to you?!

It's really the only guaranteed solution to help prevent you from being separated from your cats.

Maybe look into some puppy sized collars. You can always poke holes smaller/larger on the webbed ones. They don't have to be choking the cat to be on tight enough, just enough to get your 2 fingers comfortably underneath.

The one I have on my cat works pretty well. It has elastic on it so that if she does get really stuck, she could slip out.

Otherwise, ask a vet. I'm sure they can tell you the pros/cons of good/bad products.

Nix the collars all together. Our cats learned how to take the off each other and they never stayed on again. We got them microchipped instead. It's a little chip that they inject into the excess neck skin that has all their vet records and your contact info in it. Your vet can do it, or for cheaper you can look up pet events where they do low cost implants.

i have pretty terrible allergies, and one of my cats gets me worse than the other. I started bathing her in relief shampoo and creme rinse and it worked pretty well, but I have to bathe her at least every two weeks.

your cats are actually loosening the collars? i don't think any kind of cat specific collar is going to work. all cat collars are made to come off easily if snagged, but you might be able to find a belt like collar with a safety clasp, but i think the only belt collars i've seen for cats have a little elastic band so it will stretch over the head if they get caught, and i guess that would defeat the whole purpose.
