^^ While I agree that he's one of the greatest ever, his stats were somewhat skewed by the inferior competition he faced as well as the fact that his dad was the coach and ran the entire team through him.
what sucks is that he could have been a state player, but he didn't get accepted even though Press was coaching here at the time.

Maravich should be #1, he fucking dominated shit and played against plenty of good competition.
But I am surprised DT wasnt higher

Yeah Pistol Pete should be number one. He turned LSU into a good team after they were shitty for a long time. Alcindor will probably be number 2.
Bill Walton, Jerry West, and Bill Russell for sure have to be up there. Don't be suprised if Oscar Robertson (Cincinnati) slips in.
D.T is often refered to as the most dominating college player of all time. (needs to be top 3). 2/27/2008 10:07:12 PM |

so who would i pick? the closest local team is the bobcats but pigs will fly before i root for those UNC fags. Sure there are players I like, but they can be traded at any time. It's mostly a bunch of greedy guys who want to get theirs and play no defense. I'd rather watch a quality low scoring game than a high scoring game where no one attempts defense. Granted you have the selfish players in college, but they are more tame... it's overall just a different attitude 2/28/2008 12:29:10 AM |

well i am roommates with a diehard lakers fan, i'm talking diehard for 30 years
i started watching every game and man i really think it's just as exciting if not moreso when you actually have a team to cheer for. I watch most other western conf. games now and can't get enough.
I like college too though and am very interested in the top 25 poat 2/28/2008 12:33:26 AM |

The NBA has gotten much more watchable ever since they eliminated the illegal defense rule and let them use zone defense. The skill level in the NBA is so far above that of college ball it's unbelievable. It really is like watching the NFL vs. college football.
I really hated the NBA for about a 6 year span, but it's starting to grow on me again, and it's undeniable that the talent pool in college has really gone down the shitter. 2/28/2008 12:39:53 AM |

Lew Alcindor was one year ahead of Pete Maravich, so how can you say not enough competition? I mean he averaged 44 PPG playing for LSU in the SEC. It wasn't like he played for a D-II school or something.2/28/2008 1:46:27 AM |

it's still illegal for a defender to be in the key for 3 seconds, which eliminates most zones played in NCAA. I like the NBA ok too, but their playoffs are enough for my yearly fix.2/28/2008 1:48:30 AM |

Maravich only shot 44%... it's not like he was dominating by making every shot he took, he just took a shitload of shots. Averaged 38 shots per game for 3 years...that's more rediculous than the points
^^ is that a rule?

44% is pretty solid for a guard. Think about how many more he would have scored if the 3-point line was in when he played. 2/28/2008 2:00:54 AM |
BJCaudill21 Not an alcoholic 8015 Posts user info edit post |
So he had no reason to shoot from that far away... I don't know I never saw him play, but hell, Fells shoots 48% maybe we should just get him to shoot 38 times per game and lead us to...the NIT

nobody is denying he was GREAT, hell i even made an appreciation thread for his college days
but he wasn't a team player... he was a great individual but not the most valuable/greatest asset
he's still in my top 2 or 3
and offensive 3 second violation is loss of possession. defensive 3 second violation is a technical shot and offense retains possession

This list is a freakin joke:
1) Alcindor 2) Thompson 3) Walton 4) Maravich 5) Robertson
Bird, Laettner, Lucas, Ford, Wilt, and Kurland should be next in line (In no particular order)
...and the fact that Jordan is 1 spot behind Laettner (Not to mention above Jamison and maybe Ford if he isn't on there) proves what a joke ESPN is. Jordan couldn't hold Jamison's jock at the college level.
They've left Ford off thus far, so either they think UNC's best COLLEGE player is Jordan, or they think Phil Ford was better than Thompson. Either way, they're high as a damn kite

who expected any difference from this and the other retarded lists they make?
