Question:
How long after an inspection expires can you go without penalty.
Situation: My car's inspection expired in Jan. The car hasn't been running since last Oct., otherwise I would have gotten it done a month or two before. I had thought I'd get the car up and running in time by the end of Jan, but that failed. I'm going today. Is there a penalty being 27 days late?
I know it says:
3. Sticker Rule for Emissions Counties: (a) If the registration is current and the sticker is current, inspect the vehicle. (b) If the registration is expired, or there is no registration card, or no tag and the emission inspection sticker is expired by more than four months, inspect the vehicle. (c) If there is no inspection sticker on the vehicle, contact your local DMV Inspector/Auditor to request the current compliance date of the sticker. (d) If the registration is expired and the sticker is expired by less than four months, do not inspect the vehicle. The consumer must renew the registration before the vehicle may be inspected.
But I don't have to do emissions. (1985 Porsche, even with the 1995 engine)
I know about the 30day period for an inspection failure. But I just simply have an expired one. 2/29/2008 5:17:17 PM |

If the car is a 1995 or older they aren't going to send you anything and there is no fine AFAIK. My 1994 TA hasn't been inspected in almost 3 years. 2/29/2008 7:03:33 PM |

^ have you had it inspected since you purchased it? if so, do you still have the same tags on it and have they been kept current since it was last inspected? 2/29/2008 9:12:52 PM |

Bought my current Rx-7 (pre 96 car) in October '06. NC inspection was already valid until June '07... well, the car went down in April 07 and didn't run until February 08. That's over 6 months out of date. I never got a fine or anything, and when I got the inspection they just told me it would only be valid until June 08 and then I'd need to get another one again. 3/1/2008 9:52:39 AM |

FWIW I have a friend with a '87 Iroc that has been down for 2 years for a build. He has gotten 2 fine notifications from the DMV since the car has been apart. 3/1/2008 10:53:20 AM |
