i played through twice...one doing mostly good things one mostly bad...neat concept for a game
also i liked going right outside the town into the forest where you can make speeches and doing some glitch where you can "announce" or whatever to like 80 people at once...cant remember the details lol

Ha, I love the bruised knees of the middle one. Nice touch.
While the first one was alright, it was a huge dissapointment considering it was going to be, according to molyneux (also known as the "biggest self hype generator of all time") the greatest game ever. 3/6/2008 11:16:57 PM |

I finally got around to playing the first game about 4 months ago. I wasn't impressed enough for a second playthrough.

Weren't there several games that used this concept long before Fable came around? I don't know because I didn't play them all in the order they came out.
KOTOR series Black & White series
Spring to mind. I'm sure there were many more.3/7/2008 10:46:18 AM |

Just about every DnD RPG made after 1995 or so gave you good/evil choices.
Fable was innovative in the freedom that it gave you to lead a life as your character (eat too much and you become fat, changing character appearance, ability to get married, ect), but not so much in that it gave you good/evil options.
Too bad it was outstandingly short.5/5/2008 2:43:46 AM |

it had a little bit of exploration and side quests. then again, i dont mind games being linear. sometimes open-ended games just feel disjointed.
linear is great for storytelling (not that fable had an outstanding story or anything, but you get the point). 5/5/2008 12:50:11 PM |

Not to mention it was incredibly short. It was pretty dissapointing in those respects. Good game, but it didn't live up to the hype in terms of an open game world and replayability/length. I literally got the game on a Friday, played a few hours. Then played all day Sat, and beat it after 2 hours Sunday night.9/30/2008 12:16:39 AM |

as short as it was, i did go back and play as the other types of chars. Evil warrior, good mage, neutral (pointless in Fable 1) archer ...didn't finish the last one.
i enjoyed it and would def rent the new one. 9/30/2008 12:27:24 AM |

It ships this week, but has a hard street date of 10/21, so wait until next Monday & go to a midnight launch at Gamestop (I believe they're having one three straight Mondays).
It's also a 360 exclusive, with it making it's way to PC eventually. 10/14/2008 2:06:37 PM |

Yup. Been playing it all day (night? shit, lost track of time)
I haven't done a whole lot in the way of the game. I worked on becoming a master blacksmith and a master woodcutter so that earned me about 90k Gold. Now I've just been going around buying up all the small businesses I can find. I've got it now to where I get paid about 1000 gold every 5 minutes just for walking around. But I'm still on the first mission or whatever.
This game's pretty fun. 10/16/2008 10:30:47 PM |

I've pretty much so been playing it all day. I think I'm about 2/3 of the way through the game right now. I've been doing a lot of the side quests, so maybe not quite 2/3rds. Its very fun and I am enjoying it, but really the biggest thing I noticed was how much it makes me appreciate how amazing and epic Oblivion was.
I'm pretty sure you could take one of the major side stories (like one of the guilds) from Oblivion, release that as a standalone game and it would still feel larger than Fable 2. There's no large open landscapes. If you choose not to warp everywhere you end up walking though the same narrow roadways dozens of times, killing the same 40 bad guys over and over again. Which means you warp everywhere or die of a mixture of boredom and carpal tunnel. When comparing to Oblivion nothing is as big, as grandiose, or as complex. There's no armor to speak of. Only a handful of weapons (unless there are lots more nearer the end of the game) None of the cool stuff like creating your own potions, spells, or enchantments. Leveling up is a simplified version of what it should be, the menu system is one of the worst I've seen in gaming (seriously, whoever designed it has no right to be in the video game business) The map system is a joke (no zooming? are you kidding me?) and my biggest complaint is that when you "die" you just fall over, lose some xp, and get back up with a full health meter. It really takes away any sense of challenge and danger that should be there. Also I usually hate people that whine about how you can't jump in games like this, but there are times when it's beyond painful to not be able to hop up onto some 6 inch rock that's standing in your way.
All those complaints being said, it's still a great game that has managed to keep me entertained and held my attention for the better part of a day and a half. Which is quite the accomplishment for a video game these days. I'd give it a good solid 8/10.] 10/18/2008 3:18:58 AM |

How long or short is it compared to the original Fable? If you're already 2/3rd of the way through that sounds pretty disappointing, and it seems like they really didn't make good on their promises of length.
Also, I was personally extremely bored by Oblivion. It lacked direction and more importantly it lacked immersion... there was nothing that made me want to do the side quests other than for the simple sake of doing them, which wasn't that fun because half of them were annoying errands you were asked to run. Everything I did just felt meaningless and a bit silly, even the main storyline. Certainly nowhere close to even approaching 'epic'.
But, anyway, this is a Fable 2 thread, so let's try to keep away from discussing Oblivion. 10/18/2008 5:37:01 AM |
cyrion All American 27139 Posts user info edit post |
it did feel huge though. i agree that it felt kind of lifeless, but i did enjoy doing all 3 guild's quests in oblivion. morrowind felt large simply because you couldnt port any time you wanted.

Morrowind was fun as hell, but almost TOO big. All the different sidequests and little discoveries you could find was awesome. Plus, spelunking into a random dungeon gave you a real sense of immersion and desperation when fighting the enemies was hard, your armor and weapons were at the breaking point, and you were relying on drops from kills to keep going 10/18/2008 12:08:01 PM |

My only real complaint with Oblivion was the leveling system. It was so pointless to have a game where the monsters stayed around your level, plus it lacked epic type monsters in my opinion. When I play an RPG I like having to level up in order to kill some giant Dragon or monster or something. It just seemed too bland. I loved the size, I loved how you could do anything you wanted... but other then that. Meh. 10/18/2008 12:39:59 PM |
