someone took my card number and bought 1500 bucks worth of gas and shit from walmart in Florida. Its seems everyone I know who has this happen to them has had it happen in florida.

Does florida have some different system step up for identifying card holders or some different internet laws for ordering? Or is Florida just filed with idiot rednecks?

I think the more savvy thiefs can actually make the cards now. Like they have blank cards and a machine that writes to the magnetic stripe.

They go around using each one until the bank nukes it then make a few more. It seems to me anyone who has the brains to put an operation like that together would have the brains to get a decent job and pay their own way. I guess thats the difference between a criminal mindset and the way the rest of us operate.

its not hard.

when i goto the gas station and use my debit, i could press credit and it just get authorized and bam, you're pumping gas.

if you press debit, then you have to enter a pin.

not sure why its happening in FL.

welcome to over 6 years ago. "carders" have been writing stolen information onto magstrips for a while. Hell, even the holograms are stamped and the card numbers embossed onto them. Usually what you would do is make a fake id to match the name printed on the card which sometimes does and sometimes doesn't match the information encoded on to the magnetic strip. (depends on the mark and how big of a ticket the item in question is)

With the gas pump ordeal, someone would just have needed to purchase your stolen info (supplied c/o dishonest waitstaff) and write it to a blank .10cent pvc card.

I mean, that's what i heard yo.

^ yeah... MSR206 can reprogram your own cards to somebody else's info. Or, knowing the right people you can buy fake cards that look as good as the real thing. visa is going towards non embossed and no hologram on new cards so that's making it even easier.

They don't usually get the info from a skimmer like pictured above, they usually get huge amounts from either getting into a company's database or some other form of hacking.

I can't find the news article but there was a group busted in Florida recently responsible for millions in fraud. A lot of Cubans are involved.

a "good job" doesn't pay $5K+ a day. i mean, that's basically only 5 laptops a day... very doable

^^yeah until CP and SC got busted, you could buy endless batches of cards from teh russians all day every day.

I almost picked up an msr206 back in my immature freshman daze.

One time I went to DC, and someone stole my credit card number and used it to do some sort of money transfer deal to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

You should turn them in -- identity theft is serious.
