My soon to be wife and I are looking for a house to rent beginning June 1st. I have to put in my 2 months notice here in a couple weeks at my current place, so naturally i have started looking for rental houses. Is it too soon to begin contacting owners/rental companies about looking at houses? I'd like to go ahead and get some of the arrangements made now so i wont have to worry about it later when I'm trying finalize wedding plans. I suppose I don't want to waste my time looking for places and contacting the owners if everyone is going to say no to holding it for two months.

I'm sure houses have a little slower turnover than apartments, I would start the search whenever i had time.

It sucks that rental properties put you in a tough spot like that. You have to notify 60 days in advance if you are going to move out, but apartment companies will only look 60 days ahead, so you have a very small, sometimes nonexistent window to look through.

Go through craigslist like the other guy said. Not only search the ads, but post a house/apartment wanted ad yourself. Be specific about what you want (i.e. price, location, appliances, pet friendly, etc) and also the date you want to move. You never know, your may get the perfect place that way. That's exactly how it worked for me, and I just signed a lease to move into a townhome June 1st. It was everything I asked for and more. Price was great, too.

Word to teh wise, all the local apartment companies have upped their rent in the past couple of months. They are trying to gouge all the 'would be buyers' that decided to stay outta the market and rent.

any house that stays on the market for two months is probably not something you want to rent

i'm sure if you wait until the end of April to start looking, you'll surely find something worth renting and have plenty of time to sign papers and move in

where at?

I work for a custom home builder, and my boss (the owner) has built several small houses that he rents out. Don't know if he has any available in your time frame though. Also, all houses are in southern wake county.

Im looking to spent about 800, give or take a hundred. I'd like somethign around 1000 or more sq ft that is pet friendly. I've found a couple I like up near Glascock in east/northeast Raleigh inside the beltline, and at first I didnt want to live in south Raleigh (like in Garner area just south of Tryon), but then I realized it was close than it seemed. Honestly, I'm up for living anywhere within a 20 minute drive as long as I like the place.

Also, a couple days ago I sent an email asking for more details about a house posted here (http://raleigh.craigslist.org/apa/611221172.html). I was curious but the info in the ad wasn't quite right. Here's the response I got:

Quote :
"Hello,
Thanks for the email. I Dr. Desmond Brown own the 3 bedroom and also want you to know that it was due to my transfer that makes me and my wife to leave the house and also want to give it out for rent and looking for a responsible person that can take very good care of it as we are not after the money for the rent but want it to be clean at the time and the person that will rent it to take it as if it were its own. So for now, We are here in west Africa,Lagos our new house and also with the keys of the house, we try to look for an agent that we can give this documents before we left but could not see and we are as well as don't want our house to be used any how in our present that is why we took it along with us. I and my wife came over to west Africa,Lagos for a missionary work, so i hope you will promise us to take very good care of the house. So get back to me on how you could take care of our house or perhaps experience you have in renting home. Hope you are okay with the price of $800(1 months first payment) with hydro, heat laundry facilities, air condition and so on. I am looking forward to hear from you ASAP, below is the application form for you to fill and discuss on how to get the house for rent, this is the address of the home.

It's like a scam, but they aren't asking for money.

Don't go too far east on Glascock. It gets slummy pretty quick.

Muzition00,

There are many rental properties listed in the Triangle MLS. If you're interested in receiving the list electronically, please let me know and I will get them to you. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem with a June move in date.
