Top 10 New Classics
The editors of Kelley Blue Book, the trusted resource for vehicle information, have reviewed the vehicle marketplace and determined which vehicles built in the last five years are destined to be classics and collectibles in the future.

Kelley Blue Book's Top 10 New Classics Under $100,000

2001 Acura Integra Type R
Original MSRP:
Unavailable
A factory race-tuned car in an affordable package built in very limited numbers makes this an easy call as an Acura collector car of the future.

2003 Audi RS 6
Original MSRP:
$84,660
With only 1,000 units manufactured annually worldwide, it's a near guarantee this will be a collectable. If you can get your hands on one, park it and wait.

2003 Chevrolet SSR Signature Series
Original MSRP:
$41,995
There are only 25 of these vehicles, each with its own unique certified history attached. This one represents Chevy's design exercise gone straight to production.

2000 Plymouth Prowler
Original MSRP:
$43,727
In 2000, which was the last year Chrysler's retro-rod was produced, only 200 of these were made. The 2000 model year will be the collector Prowler year of choice.

2003 Dodge Viper SRT
Original MSRP:
$83,795
The most sophisticated version yet of this pure American muscle car. The Viper has always been a sought after vehicle, but the 2003 SRT is the keeper.

2003 Ford Thunderbird 007 Edition
Original MSRP:
$43,995
This new classic may not have been as popular as the original, but as a limited edition part of Ford's new history, this one will gain value sooner or later.

2003 BMW M3
Original MSRP:
$56,195
This is the car that defined the sport sedan segment. The M3 has been built in relatively high numbers and will take some time to appreciate. This vehicle is a significant piece of automotive history.

2003 Miata Club Sport
Original MSRP:
$20,000
Only 50 of these were made in 2003 and by order only. In fact, these vehicles were origanally only sold to members of the Sports Car Club of America.

2000 Mustang Cobra R
Original MSRP:
$54,995
Only 300 of these factory type race cars were made. In fact, these are already increasing in value.

2003 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
Original MSRP:
$22,200 - 27,300
In 1979, Volkswagen discontinued the popular Beetle in the U.S. It was popular then and 24 years later it is again. We expect the new Beetle convertible to be a new classic.

Kelley Blue Book's Top 10 New Classics Over $100,000

2003 Aston Martin Vanquish
Original MSRP:
$231,260
Incomparable British style and performance. With V12 performance and a movie career (007), this one is already a classic.

2003 Bentley Azure
Original MSRP:
$367,000
With this kind of price tag, it may be a while before the value increases, but a convertible Bentley such as this will always be in someone's collection.

2003 BMW Z8 Alpina
Original MSRP:
$137,595
While the BMW M3 is the more 'fun' car, the limited production and heritage of the Z8 make it an instant collectible.

2003 Ferrari Enzo
Original MSRP:
$650,000
Even with $650,000 price tag, each vehicle was pre-sold to previous Ferrari owners heavily screened by the factory. If you have money to burn, enjoy it—otherwise lock it in a vault.

2004-2005 Ford GT
Original MSRP:
$150,000
The true successor to the American muscle car—the Ford GT of the 1960s. It was beautiful then and the new one is faithful to the original. This one is a bargain at $150,000.

2002 Lamborghini Murcielago
Original MSRP:
$273,000
We believe this one has over-the-top styling that screams MONEY—and it drives even faster than it looks. This is a TRUE exotic.

1998 McLaren F1
Original MSRP:
Undisclosed
This is one of the most beautiful race cars of the modern era. With crisp clean lines, BMW V12 and body-hugging interior, as a collectible, it's already pulling in over a million.

2003 Mercedes SL 55 AMG
Original MSRP:
$113,915
One of the most affordable (relatively speaking) pieces of classic collectible luxury. It's everything you could want—beauty, speed and capable handling for a great top-down ride.

2004 Porsche Carrera GT Roadster
Original MSRP:
$440,000
This one is a hand built street-legal race car. The fact that it will be built by Porsche in small numbers made its inclusion in this list an easy call.

2001 Saleen S
Original MSRP:
$395,000
One of the few independent American built supercars. With its rich history, speed and muscle, this one will be a collector, but will take some time to before it goes up in value.

interesting list. i don't doubt some of those cars will be, but it's nothing more than broad speculation imo.

we can't say what people 30-40 years from now will think of those cars, other than they're rare. there's a whole hell of a lot of low production vehicles out there that aren't hardly worth the metal they're made from. then there's a lot of dime a dozen cars that rake in the dollars.

also, i think a lot of those cars will peak in value within the next few years and then fade away.

A guy next door was selling his RS6 for about $35,000 recently. He might still have it.

I think it was the 2001 model (which looks identical to the 2003 model).

Should I get it? I am afraid the real money that I will be spending will be after I buy it, on all the maintenance and repairs.

the prowler is the only sub 100k car that will be of any worth in a coupe generations.

rarity != value.

I can see an Integra Type-R, completely unmodified and low mileage, being worth something. especially when everyone our age gets to be in their 60's and end up like the grandpas today who just have to relieve their youth and buy those limited production muscle cars.

[Edited on March 22, 2008 at 10:39 AM. Reason : and for the hell of it, I am going to add a pristine 1995 Rx-7 to the list]

i had a reeeeeeally hard time finding a type-r that was in decent condition back in 2001, and after about 7 months, i just decided to settle for the gsr and built up a turbo for it

i still wish i had waited it out, and still love seeing them out on the road

Does sedan mean back seat, or four doors?

The problem with the type-r is finding one in OEM condition. You can buy an oem s2000 for cheaper.

[Edited on March 22, 2008 at 9:26 PM. Reason : 92 civic cx should have made the list!]

rarity doesn't necessarily mean value. '68 camaro is not a rare car, yet it is valuable to collectors. it's no hemi cuda though...

I can see the S2000 being the future classic car also. The new Nissan GTR probably will be in the same league.

Agreed.
The best collector cars will be the ones that people strongly desire today. All these dudes dropping $90k on a Camaro today are just the guys who couldn't afford them when they were 17 years old in 68. I don't know anyone who is trying to work financing magic to get into a 2000 Prowler. If it isn't desirable today it's not going to be valuable tomorrow. The same goes for that pos Chevy SSR, the Thunderbird, and the Beetle convertible.

Whoever wrote that article is an idiot.
