Any advice? I was thinking falls lake but the park rules say no dogs in the swimming areas, and I dont even know if they even have swimming areas as low as the water levels are anyway.

I have a 5 month chocolate labrador puppy who I want to get her introduced to water now.....just curious if there's any good spots in raleigh (live in n. raleigh / falls of neuse).

as long as your dog is good around people and other dogs, you could take her to the dam at lake johnson

i see other dogs swimming there all the time

^ That looks pretty cool. Do you happen to know which of their locations actually has the pool?

I seem to remember a thread about a guy who let his dog swim in Lake Johnson, only for it to return with half it's paw missing.....turtle bite maybe?

The dam at lake johnson is ok, just if you see a couple guys in an outboard patrolling the lake, put your dog back on the leash or you'll get a talking-to. My dog likes to wade but not to swim, so some of the little spots off the trail around the lake are better for him.

another spot at lake johnson is the beach at the boathouse. if you don't want your puppy off leash in the middle of people, get a long training lead (20' or so).

That's right. Falls Lake is Raleigh & NCSU's source for drinking water.

I took my lab over to lake johnson and was immediately told to get her out of there because it is a secondary drinking source.

Never mind the fact that there are paddleboats, fishing, and all sorts of various animals in and around the lake. I am sure my dog is what was going to cause the problems.

what's your point? They are not allowed in the swimming areas so they aren't running loose around a bunch of people and so they don't shit on the beach. I'd be more concerned about the oil from boats. And I'd say there are more contaminants in lake water from human waste than dogs since I've never had a dog that will pee or crap in the water, they always walk up on shore to do it.

i've personally pissed in falls lake more times than i can remember
same for my dog who swims there many many times during hunting season
when she cant get to dry land, she'll just pee right there in the water
and i'm far from the only one out there w/ a dog during hunting season

yeah please don't let your dog swim here. they don't process the water or anything before it goes out for use. straight from the lake to your house.
