So I have a 2000 Suzuki Marauder. I am looking to get a little more power out of it before the warm weather gets here. Hopefully soon. What do you all suggest in a bang for the buck manner. Air kits, Hypercharger, Jetting? Say it were you and you were looking to drop around $500 or so on performance upgrades.

You should deff jet it with aftermarket pipes. If you know someone or can do it yourself you could bore it out also (Bigger is better) 3/23/2008 4:22:51 PM |

sell bike and upgrade to something more powerful. SV650 would be perfect. What years did they become FI? I forgets 3/23/2008 9:40:33 PM |

marauder =/= SV
there isnt a lot you can do on the cheap, besides jetting and aftermarket pipes, but still only 5-8hp
honestly i would recommend a magna for a similar bike with more power, the 750 v4 has a metric shit ton of torque and its been around for a while so there is a large following and a lot of aftermarket parts out there cheap for it i just sold mine last ear and i kinda miss it, it was definitely the best all around cruiser i had
only drawback is the 4 exhaust pipes to burn yourself on, but a damn sexy looking bike, and there is even a local magna club here 3/23/2008 10:56:06 PM |

yeah, i think a Magna would be the best option (or a V-max, if they're your thing. Also, I like Valkyries--my Dad had one, but they're a different animal, too.)
that or just leaving well enough alone--I mean, it's a Marauder. Who gives a shit how fast it is? That's why Suzuki also makes the GSX-R series. 3/23/2008 11:03:09 PM |

Yes I know sv's aren't the same as the Maraurder, but was saying that the SV650 would be a good upgrade bike. It's got a relaxed seating position for long rides, but still sports bike based. It's no crusier, but nontheless.
And I agree with the duke's comment, it's a cruiser, leave it alone. 3/23/2008 11:46:50 PM |

^ review on the magna
its about 85 whp stock, mine was pushing 120 on 93 octane after port and polish, shaved heads, cobra pipes, rejetting, race cams, lightened flywheel, and a a 2 over rear sprocket
its a light, good handling bike, my only complaints were the puny brakes that tended to fade in the mountians, and the frame will drag in tight corners without the suspension set up as hard as possible, but that could also be the fact that i weigh almost as much as the bike
the front brakes can be upgraded to dual disc from a vulcan, not much you can do about the rear drum on the cheap
they are also very affordable
this was mine, i loved the 97 slashed black on red or black on yellow paint schemes, only reason i sold it was to afford an FJR1300, but i made a genre change, i wouldn't ride any other cruiser besides a v-max or valkyrie, and for the money, they are just impractical 3/24/2008 7:54:43 AM |

^light, bullshit. you need a better perspective - my SV comes in just under 400#.

a cunt hair over 500, but compared to a 68 hp sv, its a lot more comfortable and powerful
[Edited on March 24, 2008 at 10:34 AM. Reason : you'd be surpised if you saw one stripped down, the engine is a stressed member despite the downtube]
[Edited on March 24, 2008 at 10:42 AM. Reason : considering a v-max is pushing 650 lbs, at 120 hp stock the hp/weight is very close] 3/24/2008 10:32:39 AM |

Nah, pretty sure I always be a cruiser guy. I'll probably end up going the port/polish and rejetting route. Remove the back seat, no windshield, and change the stock pipes to Cobras and this is what it looks like

you must have a really specific boner for Marauders to port and polish one. there is no reason whatsoever to do that stuff unless you specifically have to have a Marauder and it must be marginally faster than a stock one (for whatever purpose that serves).
but hey, your bike and your money. have at it, i guess. 3/24/2008 3:07:37 PM |
