yep it's that time of year and I swear i will at least complete the first round. mebbe even the second.....soooo here we go. I will be doing 10 picks a day through the 2nd round.

ROUND ONE
1. Miami (1-15) Chris Long, DE Virginia

Ok, here's one of the toughest to project simply because of the many areas that Miami needs help. I really see this bick being between the 2 Long's. Bill Parcells has never used a high pick on a QB so you can basically count out matt ryan. I'm going with Chris because he will be a great 3-4 DE, and Miami is looking to move to that. Also Howie Long and Bill Parcells have been friends for years and I dont see him not picking Howie's son.

2. St. Louis (3-13) Jake Long, OT Michigan

All that needs to be looked at is what happened when orlando pace went out for the season last year. Opposing defenses killed bulger/frerrote/whoever else was playing qb. Jake long is a franchise offensive linemen and they say will likely be one of the top 15 offensive tackles already when he enters the NFL. I just cant see them letting him slide.

3. Atlanta (4-12) Matt Ryan, QB BC

I really hate this pick, but atlanta does need a face for their franchise. Matt ryan is a decent qb prospect, but in relation to the first rd qb of the last 4-5 years, he is average in my opinion. If I am atlanta, I address my defensive needs and take a shot at a QB with one of my 2 2nd rd picks where there will be a lot of value at the QB position.

4. Oakland (4-12) Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas

Yep, Al Davis does it again. Definitely not a need, but that has never stopped al davis. It will probably be his last nfl draft, so he'll go with the player he wants. McFadden will be ok in oakland, but i would rather see them go after gholston or dorsey to shore up their defensive line.

5. Kansas City (4-12) Jeff Otah, OT Pitt

Of all the trades I am expecting, this one I am almost sure of will be picked by another team with Jake Long off the board. But, since I said I wouldnt be taking into account of trades, Jeff Otah would be the other guy on the Cheifs' board. He fits the physical makeup that the cheifs are looking for as a tackle. they see clady as too much of a finesse blocker to fit their schemes. So I would expect to see the cheifs end up with otah, but probably not at this pick.

6. New York Jets (4-12) Vernon Gholston, DE Ohio State

McFadden getting drafted by the Raders is a gift to the Jets. A lot of people see him going here, but I think the Jets would be wayy better off stocking up their defense with a player like gholston. he will be the pass rusher they have been missing since john abraham was healthy in a jets uniform 7 years ago. I also think that 10 years from now that we could be looking at the top 3 players in this draft being jake long, gholston, and keith rivers.

7. New England (from San Francisco) (5-11) Leodis McKelvin, CB Troy

Well it is going to be hard for the pats to pass up dorsey, they badly need a CB with the mass exodus of their secondary this offseason. McKelvin is they best man-to-man cover corner in the draft, so no need to look elsewhere

8. Baltimore (5-11) Brian Brohm, QB Louisville

Hmm...Kyle Boller, Trent Dilfer, Anthony Wright, Steve Mcnair, Troy Smith... seems like this team could use a franchise QB, but guess what! Brohm isnt it. O yes they will draft him, but I'm a lot higher on a few of the 2nd rd qb's than ryan and brohm. I just think both guys wont be able to overcome the shortcomings of the teams drafting them. Regardless, this is one of the surest guesses in the draft.

9. Cincinnati (7-9) Glen Dorsey, DT LSU

Holy Shit how the mighty have fallen. This is what injury questions a questionable off the field work ethic will do to a prospect. But this may be the perfect fit for dorsey and the bengals. The bengals would all have a circle jerk if they could get dorsey here.


10. New Orleans (7-9) Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, DB Tennesse St.

The Saints need a CB. Bad. Really really bad. Jason David isnt the answer. Rodgers-Cromartie shows blazing speed and tons of potential and I could definitely see the saints giving him a shot at this pick.

11. Buffalo (7-9) Malcolm Kelly, WR Oklahoma

This is another almost sure thing. The bills desperately need a WR to line up with Lee Evans. Kelly is the big WR that would complement Evans perfectly. concerns me a little though that he has been putting off his pro workouts.

12. Denver (7-9) Sedrick Ellis, DT USC

Defensively, Denver has to build almost their entire defensive line. No better way to start than with all american sedrick ellis. he should be a great fit for their D.

13. Carolina (7-9) Ryan Clady, OT Boise State

The number one priority in the offseason now should be to find another offensive tackle that can step in and start right away. Clady would be a great pick here, especially since he would be considered as a potential pick for 3-4 teams before carolina's #13 pick.

14. Chicago (7-9) Chris Williams, OT Vanderbilt

Chicago's OL's average age is 33. They just cut 2 former starters. Need I say more? Chris Williams is a smart, athletic tackle that should make it a little bit easier for whatever rb they draft in rd 2 to run the ball.

15. Detroit (7-9) Rashard Mendenhall, RB Illinois

Well, the lions' running game sucked last year. A large part of that was the fact that the coordinator was mike martz, but even without him it would have been subpar. With Tatum Bell and cason as the only rb's left on the roster, this makes all the sense in the world. Mendenhall is strong, fast and should be able to carry the workload. The lions will need to address the offensive and defensive lines in rounds 2 and 3.

No way KC drafts Otah 5th, I know ARI reached for Levi Brown in a situation last year but there weren't two top 5 picks staring at them(in a position they need). They will take Dorsey or Ellis imo, but they'd rather have Jake Long fall to them or trade down and take Otah.


I'm hoping the Panthers trade them their 1st and the Jets' 3rd to take Clady 5th, KC should be able to take Otah 13th unless CHI trades up.

parcells' first year as coach, the pats' gm drafted bledsoe when parcells wanted marvin jones out of fsu. it was the first of many veto's. parcells did not gain total palyer personel abilities until he was with the jets from 1996-1999 as coach where he retired from the nfl for the 2nd time. chad pennington was drafted right after parcells left. remember, parcells had vinnie testaverde running the show

As a Bills fan I'm pretty skeptical on Malcom Kelly, he has yet to run or really do a lot of workouts in either his pro day or the combine. I would like to see the Bills try and trade back with somebody and try and pick up Limas Sweed.

The Malcolm Kelly situation is interesting because he's gong to have a good pro day to get drafted in the top 15. If he has a bad workout that day he could definately drop to the late 1st round, or even lower depending on how bad we're talking about.

Manningham projected to the 1st round till he threw up a 4.6 at the combine, which combined with his gangsta interview and lack of size had some draft pundits dropping him all the way to day 2. He has somewhat redeemed himself with a 4.4 pro day, but I still have him going in the 2nd round.

16. Arizona (8-8) Keith Rivers, LB USC

Arizona, for a team tha went 8-8, needs a lot. With Rivers dropping to this spot, there is no way they dont take him and solidify their LB corps. Like I said before, I think he could make one of the best pro players in this draft.


17. Minnesota (8-8) Derrick Harvey, DE Florida

Defensively, the vikings HAVE to develop any kind of a pass rush to be successful. opposing qb's had all the time in the world to throw on them last year and they repeatedly got torched. Picking an edge rusher like harvey should definitley help.


18. Houston (8-8) Mike Jenkins, CB USF

Speaking of torched through the air, Houston has to go with a CB. I know a lot of people like Jonathan Stewart here, but Houston knows they can get a very solid RB in rd 2 and that there is a significant drop off in CB talent soon. This is why they take the best cover-corner left on the board in jenkins.

19. Philadelphia (8-8) Devin Thomas, WR Michigan State

THe eagles are for sure picking a WR. The question is which one. My guess is the big and fast Devin Thomas. He only has had one good year but the scouts have been saying he could be the real deal. I think had he had more success throughout college, he would be a top 5 pick.

20. Tampa Bay (9-7) Desean Jackson, WR Cal

God to the Bucs need a WR under 30. Jackson gives them the WR they need as while also boosting the TB return game. He will be the first TB kick returner people will actually worry about.

21. Washington (9-7) Phillip Merling, DE Clemson

Merling gives the Skins the versatility of being able to play any position on the defensive line, an area the skins have to address first. look for them to snag a WR in the 2nd round.


22. Dallas (from Cleveland) (10-6) Aquib Talib, CB Kansas

Well, Dallas gets another playmaker. He may not be the best cover corner, but dallas definitely needs some upgrades i ntheir secondary. Again with a lot of good RB's out there, look for dallas to use its 2nd 1st rd pick on a rb .

I agree, Thomas or Jackson will likely be the first WR taken unless Kelly has a great workout on the 9th. Be that as it may - I think it's more likely that BUF goes defense in the 1st than reaching for a WR, they need a DE or CB.

The WR situation will also make them want to trade down, and that could let us jump DEN and draft Clady if he's availible at 11.

Noid I can tell you right now that the Buffalo draft team will reach for a player who fits a need like the aforementioned Whitner scenario or when they traded up to draft McCargo in the same draft.

I don't forsee them going corner, as Greer and McGee both played well last year and they just signed William James (formerly William Peterson) a couple of days ago.

At defensive end the Bills have a lot of money tied up in Kelsay and Schobel and I believe that will pick up a defensive end, but most likely in the later rounds.

The logical thing for Buffalo to try and do is trade down to where they are sitting right before Minnesota and Phily, because both those teams would try and snag a wideout.
I'll stand by my prediction, Devin Thomas, 11th pick in the draft, and we'll get to see Mel Kiper shit his pants about it.
