Brakes decided to take a crap on me. Mushy peddle, started yesterday. Got the truck on stands to check it out. No leaks anywhere, wheel cylinders looked nasty... boots ripped but not leaking. Good pad surface all the way around. I changed out the wheel cylinders and bled the whole system. Guess what... peddle is still mushy. When you push down the peddle continues to move down.
What and how to check now?
rear ABS? Combo valve? Master cylinder? Booster? Take a sh*t in the master cylinder and hopes that fixes it? 3/24/2008 9:35:02 PM |

sounds like a master cylinder to me. I've had the same problem on various vehicles over the years. 3/24/2008 10:02:45 PM |

if you don't have a leak, and the pedal goes down while you hold it with the engine off, then you have a bad master cylinder, its not uncommon on those trucks 3/24/2008 10:33:37 PM |

sounds like it's probably the shaft seal in the master cylinder. like ^^ said, common problem on the 88-98 trucks. 3/24/2008 11:36:17 PM |
