Home owners...which do you have? Do you like it? Is it more expensive that you thought? 3/27/2008 2:55:19 PM |

I have Brinks. It's way cheaper than ADT was, that's for sure. I haven't been burgled, though, so I can't attest to its effectiveness. 3/27/2008 3:02:08 PM |

Did you have to sign a contract?
I thought there were companies that were out there that didn't require it, but it seems like they all want a 3 year contract 3/27/2008 3:04:58 PM |

i've got a local company in ATL - had to sign a 3yr to get a decent monthly rate - it's $20/mo - free installation yadda yadda - 2 keypads - 1 in MBR and 1 in kitchen by the door to the garage
we got it because we both travel from time to time and if we're both gone for a week would like to have some sense of security
i forget to set it from time to time - my wife is pretty good about it - she grew up with one and i didn't though
i've yet to use it in a real scenario so like spooky i can't tell you if it's done anything - my neighbors without alarms haven't been robbed as well 3/27/2008 3:16:06 PM |

I have ADT or CPI, I forget which. I use it because I live in a condo, and have a crap ton of valuable stuff sitting close to the door.
It isn't any more expensive than I thought it would be. If you are worried about expense, you can have it installed, but not monitored. You get all the signs and bells and whistles, but the cops won't come if it does go off.
I had a couple of false alarms because of a faulty door switch (replaced for free), and the cops were there within 5 minutes. Though 5 minutes means a couple grand worth of stuff could dissapear if the person wasn't scared off. 3/27/2008 3:37:11 PM |
