Just wondering if anyone has any clue as to what the new gigantic poles on either side of Trinity road are going to be for? They are on either side of teh road and giant rusted poles which some already have pullies on them. There is also one past the stadium near where the WPC is at the top of that hill. I've been tryin to figure this out for awhile since they started putting them up but cant at all, and no one ive asked has a clue.

I was told they were running to SAS because SAS needs more power...cant say whether thats accurate or not though.

Yeah I thought power might be a possibility as well but if they r running it for specifically one company then why would they run them on both sides of the road? Seems like itll look like sh!t when they are done if they throw up ugly ass power line poles up and down it. not something I'd want to be in eyesight when goin to a game.

I also thought that when companies needed more power they typically went underground now a days and pulled from another line, or ran a new one that way.

yea they are power poles, i'm sure they will paint them before the project is done like other metal poles.

there are some new housing developments off of trinity rd, i thought that may be the reason they need more power.

maybe they're all high voltage lines (hence the giant towers). seems like an odd place to run them.

but if they are, i think we all know this is just a plot by Stafford to sterilize all the tailgaters

Thats BS if there high voltage lines there. the last thing you think a nice university would want near their football stadium. Just kinda takes away from everything thats around there, no matter how clean they make them look. woulda thought they coulda ran them some other way to keep them away from that area or done them underground up trinity even though it woulda cost more, it woulda been worth it for the surrounding area.

that transmission line has been in the works for a while now, and the reason it's being built is to provide a backup feed for the sports complexes over there. Having the RBC center black out and postponing a game for 15 minutes while we are on national television makes our school look a hell of a lot worse than having a transmission line outside the stadium.

I'm surprised they went with weathering steel instead of galvanized. It would have been cooler if they made the poles look like a wolf head.

I have to think its definitely going to put a damper and what little chance there is of that area becoming anything more than an arena and a football stadium surrounded by a field. Why does Raleigh think they even have a shot at an NCAA regional or the All-Star Game?

no, they are running it from "RALEIGH PRISON FARM 230KV" to "PROPOSED TRENTON ROAD SUBSTATION". Notice the big blue lines on that page? Those are existing lines.

bullshit, an accidental dig-in would be easy as hell to find. just look for the giant blue arcflash and the charred bodies around a hole in the ground.

They said faults are not easy to find. Dig-ins are just one particular type of cable faults. Also, there are numerous dig-ins that can result in outages that aren't noticeable. boat anchors have been dragged across water crossing lines that caused outages without anyone being injured. People have driven I-beams or vibratory caissons through power lines when they were out of service.

accidental dig-ins aren't easy to fix if you're talking about pressurized oil pipe transmission lines.
