Escort 8500 x50 or 9500i if you want the GPS addon. They both have the same performance.

If you dont know how to use one, then you should learn... Or you will be wasting your money. Also, you are going to have to spend $300+ to get anything that is acceptible on the Ka bands. With POP mode, were all screwed anyways ;-)

Some like the valentine one, but I found that its very bad with false alarms, espically on I-40/440 with all the damned traffic speed monitors that the DOT uses. This is mainly due to the fact that V1's have an additional antenna that helps out with rear radar sources.

The 9500i is probably the best bet right now, since you can program in the damn DOT locations into it, so it doesnt bother you every morning on the way to work.

Welcome to the cat and mouse game of speeding! ;-)

^I have an 8500 x50 and it registers all the DOT locations too, though. Honestly I'd probably prefer the V1, but the 8500/9500 is up there close.

For a decent USED one of these models, you'd be lucky to get it under 225-250. If you're adamant about spending no more than 175, just get one from best buy.

I tried do the same thing. it's not gonna work. the detectors that are <$300 aren't worth a damn, seriously, I've had them before, it's a waste of money. You need to save up and get an Escort. I just got one, and I love it. You can get one used for $250-$300, or if you're lucky and find a hookup, which is very possible on TWW, you can get a brand new one for $250. When I did the research, a valentine 1 wasn't worth the extra money, all it adds is the arrows really, maybe a little better rear protection, but that's it.

I'm selling an 8500 if you are interested. No shipping charges if you pick it up.

a used Passport 8500 is about the minimum you should even bother with.

Yeah, people ask me why I don't have a radar detector and it's just because I don't have 300 bones to throw down on a V1 atm. Anything else would just give me false security and I'd probably be worse off in the end.

After checking ebay, I might consider the 8500 over the V1 seeing as how it's about half the price.

i use a V1, but I think a Passport 8500 is probably good enough to serve some utility. I don't think it's as good as a V1, but it does cost a lot less.

I wouldn't depend on anything less than an 8500, though.
