I'm thinking about buying an '89 Ford Ranger V-6 4x4. The seller tells me

Quote :
"something about an electronic switch that keeps it from going in to overdrive it is this or as simple as the brake light wires are messed up"

There is obviously no CEL that he could clear, ODBII right. Does anyone know if there is a known issue with the overdrive on a ranger or any other fords? I'm thinking that many early-mid 90's fords had issues with their O/D malfuntioning but is it as easy as a switch to fix?

I mean WTF brake lights, O/D, can you not tell the difference?

My dad had an 88 with the 2.9l v6 but it was a 5 speed and we had to replace the actual 5 gear assembly twice in the 300k miles he put on it.

thats all i know but this sounds like its an auto so i doubt thats relevant

also obdII starts in 1996 so cels won't matter on inspection.

also just for my knowledge when did obdI start?
