My company is looking for a ece/cpe co-op starting right now. Preferably a junior but other experience will be weighted in the decision.

They are looking for competent people who love to figure things out and like learning. This is an R&D position so it means some hands on hardware experience.

Co-Op #8 (HW - NEBS/Safety ):
Assignment - The person will work with local EMC/NEBS and Safety staff for hands-on configuration, troubleshooting, and pre-compliance testing of nextgen Fiber to the User products. There will also be work to help track down required documentation in support of our Safety compliance testing, and working with other engineers at Alcatel and at outside compliance testing labs.
Experience - EE and Computer science Classes; Inclination toward HW/HW design Knowledge - EE/CSE engineer w/ 3.0 or better gpa preferred (Not required). Computer skills, Self Starter, General networking knowledge, HW lab experience & operation and configuration of test equipment, as well as Scripting language knowledge will be a plus.

PM me for info.

fyi, this is the R&D center that provides a lot of equipment for Verizon's FiOS deployment

y'all should be all over this.

I totally would be if I were a rising junior or senior in EE.

You mean hardware when you say HW, right? I was a little sketchy on that there.

I always thought that the EE research / building trinkets business sounded rather appealing.

Sticking together circuit boards is fun. And so are those programable thing-a-mabob chips.

And what do you mean by nextgen Fiber? What is this, a textiles co-op?

Really awesome product to be working with... really really really good experience (as long as your in a hardware group)

You will gain very valuable experience working with very high end test equipment on this job. And if your a motivated learner you can REALLY get to understand a complete system and how an entire PCB is made including how everything on a board interacts. It's possible to point at every individual component on a board and say "this does X"

I thought I was going to be a power grunt for the rest of my life until I co-op'd at Alcatel...
Now I've done board, chip, and transistor level design; all spring boarded off my experience at alcatel. (I was in a different group, but it works directly with this group)

(yeah, I know I sound like a "thanks miracletrim" infomercial... but that co-op really set me on an awesome path)
