Figured I'd try this topic in ST since 5950s are sports related..

I recently got the new Braves alternate (all navy) hat; I had every intention of fitting it just right - cutting out the front panel backing, wetting it, wearing it, etc. Well, it's been a while since I bought a fitted hat. Back then they were all wool, and I just found out that they are now 100% polyester... wtf. Can these hats still be broken in to give that more worn, lower profile look? A little research tells me that the polyester won't shrink, so it leads me to believe the good old tried and true method won't do much. Then again, I couldn't find much out there, so has anyone had any luck with these new hats?

if you wear it long enough, it'll have a genuine broken-in look. and that's always better.

have you taken the mesh backer out of the front?

i tried wetting it, and then used the old lady's hair dryer on the hottest setting to try and heat up the polyester and mesh backer to reshape it some... right now it's still a little wet, but i *think* it looks a little different. when i was using the hair dryer, i used my other hand and put it on the back of the hat and pulled backwards to make the fit tighter up front... the end of the hair dryer was right on the hat, almost touching it to get it as hot as possible. i did that for a while until my ears/hand couldn't take the heat anymore. i'm going to try the hair dryer some more, maybe that method becomes more effective after several tries.

maybe if the backer was out it would lay down some more too...

I still miss those few black state hats with just the white S on the front. We got rid of them in think in 2004 but I remember them looking pretty good.

I hear heat causes thermoplastic fibers to shrink. Put on the hat and walk under a blow torch.
