I was pretty much planning on parking in west lot anyway because my job is over near wolf village, is that one of the only major drawbacks?

wildwoods of lake johnson is much better

better management
fast repairs
they helped us move in
very cheap
they don't tow residents cars during spring break to increase revenues (LJM towed residents b/c of paving during spring break).

^ About 4-5 minutes max (well worth it if you have a spot and a car). I have lived at both and this place is much better (rent, management, neighbors).

seems like as far as distance, I can jump on jones franklin and be to western just as fast as avent ferry would be, especially considering how bad traffic can get on avent ferry.

^ I agree I park at dan allen deck and its quick as hell, I do wade ave to dixie and then I'm basically in the deck (I leave all the time with 25 minutes to spare for a grad class.

Both ways franklin to western, beltline to western, or beltline to hills or wade there all about the same time (it all depends where your parking pass is and when you're going to campus).

yeah so i was making a late night run to cookout for a study break and I say to myself, what the hell, i'll see what this wildwoods place was all about, I couldn't really see much of it, but I really just wanted to see how fast it took me to get to places, 6 minutes to dan allen deck, but no traffic really.

I'm sorry anybody got towed and I'm not a huge fan of the management at LJM, but that's bullshit. LJM put flyers everywhere and let people know more than a week in advance that they had to move their cars so the parking lots could be paved--LJM was trying to improve the place.

In any event, if you leave for more than five days, you are required to inform management--it's in the lease. I couldn't believe people whined to WRAL about that shit. Try living at MV Apts.--you'll see what real towing is.

I have lived at LJM since July 06. During 07 the management switched up and i know a lot of people had problems with the new lady (one being the major towing fiasco spring break 07). However, she got replaced late last fall but new lady who's a lot better. Also, the rent for a two bedroom has jumped from 809/month when i started to $919 for new residents (may have reduced it since last time i checked); with mine increasing to $829.

Pros:-

-Like the "woodsy" feel of the complex since all the trees and stuff are built up around the complex
- Proximity to lake johnson
- Close to campus (2 miles to centinnial; 3 miles to centinnial)
- Not ghetto
- Parking is never an issue for me or my guests.
- Not overrun by party crazed college students (pro for me but could be a negative)
- The actual apartments are spacious, clean, and have an awesome porch/deck.
- The maintenance crew is pretty responsive.
- Nice provided kitchen appliances in the renovated units.

Negs:
- Can be on the high $ side for a college budget
- Residents do include young families and older working class people (so you may get bitched at about noise eventhough you are being "relatively" quiet just having a few friends hanging out)
- The provided wireless internet sucks. Goes down all the time and feels like i am using dial-up during peak hours.
- Pool is not very conducive to tanning and gets dirty b.c of the big ass pine trees around it
- People in the common foyer can hear about everything going on in your apt rather it be watching TV/fucking in the bedroom/talking/ etc
- Could use some updating

Seriously hooksaw can you be anymore of a douche. LJM was 100% in the wrong and so are you about them giving a "weeks notice". I got my notice literally 12 HOURS before the paving was supposed to began Sunday evening. I know this b.c i was leaving from RDU at 6AM to head to spring break. My plan was for my friend to pick me and my stuff up; spend the night at his place then take a taxi to the airport. It just so happened that i procrastinated running some last minute errands to which i returned at 8PM to find the "notice". ANYONE who had left for spring break earlier (i.e Friday or Saturday) would have been fucked. True the lease does have the 5-day clause, but whose to say someone didn't go home or head to the beach just for the weekend or a short couple days trip. Either way the XTREME short notice was a Dick move; esp with LJM knowing many of the residents or college kids. Serves them right that i heard the complex went from being at 100% filled to not even being able to fill all the apartments this year.

They were originally supposed to have done the paving a month before, in which they DID send out flyers days in advance, but for some reason it got canceled.

btw i read the entire lease b4 moving in; and a year later i did not remember the 5-day rule. While some shit is intuitive and common sense like not having a camp fire on your wooden deck; LJM using this obscure condition on the leases to justify this straight up dick move is absurd.

maybe hooksaw lacks reading comprehension but the article he even posted states this guy left Sunday Morning. The notice was sent out AFTER he'd left. Then the towing was on Monday. Sunday -> Monday ; is 1 day not a week buddy.

Does anyone know what became of this? Did anyone ever get reimbursed espicially the <5 days people?

way way overpriced for what you get... if you pay over 800 or 900 for a 2-bedroom there, you are getting ripped off
you could have a much nicer place for cheaper.
Trees around the place can be good, but the other side of that is tree limbs/pine cones/SAP etc...all over your car. That gets old fast.
Also, feral cats are all over the place and love to walk on your car during the night and leave footprints.

I have to say you are dead wrong. I pay $429 for the master bedroom; roomie pays 399.

True you can DEFINITLY find a cheaper place but imho the premium i pay is the worth the value from issues i have heard from other people at different places.

Sure i can get a place at Lake Park for like $319 but that place is sketch as hell. A buddy of mine pays $359 at another place but his apartment is practically falling apart. I know for a fact UHouse and Ivy Chase are more expensive. At Ivy Chase though they tow like nazi's and at UHouse i'd have to deal with noise of living in a "party" oriented college apartment complex.

If you learned how to read u fucking cunt; you would have read that I DID NOT get towed because having returned to my apartment at 8pm, after a quick run to the store, I received my "notice" about the paving going on the very NEXT day. Thus i was fortunate to have put my car elsewhere before leaving town 6AM the next day.

^ I love that guy! I worked at that restaurant for six months!

Yodajammies lives there. Its really nice, but if you don't care about living next to the lake, overpriced. The bedrooms are decent sized (his was a converted family room so it had a fireplace in it, which was neat) and there are pretty good closet space.

Oh god. Terrible, terrible management.

My roommate was one of the ones who got towed. We got the notice the day before, but we were both out, but I had my car with me Certain sections got less than 24 hours notice.

When we went to extend our lease, the lady at the front desk agreed/noted it/whatever. Apparently a verbal agreement is not legit (She confirmed that she had agreed in later talks, but it wasn't in writing). They booked someone into our room after the agreement and told us two weeks before they forced us out (6 weeks later) that they had leased out the apartment. I went to the main office to find out what the fuck was going on, and was given the run-around while the "person in charge was out on vacation." I gave them my cell number twice and didn't get any call backs.

As long as the current management is completely different, I'd go for it. Anyone know for a fact that its changed?

I've lived in LJM for one year now (current resident) I started in a 1 bedroom and I switched to a 2 bedroom mid-lease and they were very helpful and flexible with my switching.

Indeed, the rents are higher than other "college apartments" but I should stress that these aren't typical college apartments. While there are many students here its a very mature crowd (ie-- no loud parties, wild stuff, etc...) They are very strict on background checks so the residents who live here are not shady people, they are good regular looking folks. I never worry about crime or car break ins, if it happens its certainly very minimal. The units are very nice, almost all of them were renovated in the past couple of years. My unit has brand new carpet, appliances, bathrooms, etc.. I've lived in several apartments during my college years and this is by far the best community I have seen/lived in. I will be sad to leave when I move for graduate school.

^^ exactly all the reasons i like it here.

One night i left my sunroof open by accident and nothing was gone. At lake park i would have come back to find my car looted if not even car jacked by some of the rift-raft living there.

yes that bitch kendall got promoted/moved whatever. She pissed a lot of people off including the other people working there. A lot of people got fired; a lot of tenants packed up and left. For awhile they struggled to fill all the apartments. The new manager is pretty cool. I was late with the rent check one day and she let it slide.

go with wildwoods, LJM isnt that bad, but the buildings are very old meaning you can hear your neighbors all the time, when they are having sex at 4am, or fighting with their bf at 8am on a Saturday, or my boyfriend even claims to have heard the girl upstairs phone ring on vibrate. you can definitely hear EVERYTHING and it get old very quickly.
