Randomly as I'm working on a paper my iMac decides to start downloading something. I have no idea what it was doing; I don't have anything set to auto-update.
One of my roommates has access to my FTP over the local network but nothing from the outside; besides, it was only going at 180KB/sec so I know this was coming from the outside.
All I can provide you with is the logfile from my Airport Extreme:

Any ideas? Firefox was open, along with Thunderbird, but I checked that every webpage wasn't downloading anything, and no emails were coming in. 4/30/2008 4:08:27 PM |

You can't normally resolve a MAC address unless its coming locally.
Open Terminal and type "last" to see if anyone has been remotely logging in.
AFAIK, without cracking your password, someone shouldn't make your computer able to download something... what'd you download btw? 4/30/2008 4:24:11 PM |

Just checked, I'm the only one that's logged in.

that's not a MAC address it's an IPv6 address. But it begins with FE80, so it's a link-local address.
open terminal and do an ifconfig | grep fe80
does that match fe80::20d:93ff:fe7b:8228 ?
if so, the logs are just saying that it accepted a connection from your imac]]4/30/2008 6:55:33 PM |

Thanks Bobby -- that's exactly what it is.
I suppose the mystery download will never be solved. 4/30/2008 8:02:45 PM |
