So I will be traveling internationally a bit this summer and I need to get a new set of suitcases, like the 3 piece set or something, since my old ones are broking down like crazy.
Looking to spend not too much, under $150 maybe?
Suggestions, probably will buy it off Ebay or something 5/1/2008 12:36:28 AM |

Samsonite ftw. They are pricey though. 5/1/2008 2:16:24 AM |

as a frequent traveler the things I recommend looking at before buying that I didn't necessarily think about before I used a suitcase a lot
how long the warranty is and what's not covered material wheels are made out lof if the handle is all metal or not form factor where the pockets are ability to hang a smaller bag from the carry-on ability for my bookbag to loop around the handle of the carry-on so it sits on top of it and won't fall over how close to the outside edge the wheels are so the bag is stable when hopping off curbs
also I don't know a single frequent traveler that uses eddie bauer bags... 5/1/2008 8:31:12 AM |

Atlantic makes decent bags for their price point, and they will honor their warranty should your bag get fucked up. Might want to check them out.
Try a place like Kohl's or Marshalls--sometimes you can get a good deal there on a decent brand. 5/1/2008 9:00:15 AM |

I've got an Osprey Sojourn 28". Its soft sided, wheeled, with a retractable handle, one main compartment and a smaller compartment on top. What I really like about it, is that the back panel unzips and you can convert the bag into a backpack w/ waistbelt. You're not going to hike the AT with it, but it is surprisingly comfortable for what it does.

for big trips ive got the patagonia freightliner max hard bottom duffel bag
its expensive but HUGE, and its got a lifetime warrenty, as with all patagonia products, if it breaks, they'll repair it or send you a new or comperable model free (minus shipping to them)
cant say enough good things about it as a fits everything easy to maneuver carry alll

If you'll be doing any air travel within Europe, I'd recommend that you get a smaller carry-on bag. For US domestic and international flights, the overhead bins are designed to accomodate a . But on flights within the EU, many times the space in the overhead bins is much smaller and a normal sized carry-on bag will not fit.
They do sell the smaller ones here. I think they are approx 18" x 12".
[Edited on May 1, 2008 at 2:33 PM. Reason : you can still use a 22" x 14" bag, but be prepared to check it.] 5/1/2008 2:33:01 PM |

I just bought a 4 piece rolling set off of overstock.com for $97. All the reviews (over 1000) seemed to say it was a great product but it may be a little small for your needs. The biggest one was a 30" upright suitcase, with a 26", 21", and tote bag. I would check overstock.com, they have some great deals. 5/2/2008 11:29:32 AM |

I'm partial to Rick Steves' luggage and to Samsonite.
Rick Steves makes this big backpack like bag thats pretty big. Its expandable, and even when completely full, its comfortable to wear. If you'll be traveling in europe or something, I'd recommend it as it might be easier to carry than a rolling bag.
Samsonite is another great brand that has a good warranty and makes very high quality luggage. I received a set of that for graduation and have loved it. 5/2/2008 12:06:43 PM |
