I went to the gun and knife show earlier and bought some throwing knives, since some friends and I are learning to use them.
What's the legality of taking them out in public? I have a holster that goes on my belt for three...I'd assume any place that wouldn't allow concealed weapons, but otherwise, could it be assumed to be like a pocket knife? 5/5/2008 12:54:36 AM |

that and also if they dont search you or dont know about it its not illegal...there are plenty of places you could go and not have a problem imo 5/5/2008 12:55:49 AM |

Open carry is legal, but there's always the issue of scaring people. It is illegal to scare people I believe NC law states that you cannot conceal any knife under a 3" blade length. 5/5/2008 12:58:55 AM |

hmm, it might get a little iffy trying to measure this blade length since there is no handle per say, its a 6" long piece of stainless steel that has one ~3" side shaped into a knife edge.
That's what I got. The knife shaped area is just under 3" but its real close. 5/5/2008 1:06:12 AM |

it's against the law to conceal it
in some places in NC it's against the law to even have

I would link to the [facetious] thread I made about banning knives in the soapbox
but the INCOMPETENT SITE ADMINISTRATORS lost that thread
because they were too busy adding those pop-up ads that will ultimately destroy the entire site

I never said it sucked, I said the buffoonery of the new owners that resulted in the loss of data, sucks
the site is very useful and entertaining, but that doesn't excuse incompetent administration
gg on your incorrect assumption there, douchemist

uh, yes I do
not counting a disaster of biblical proportions, it is 100% possible to keep 100% of a website's data safe
these guys, somehow, did not (it happened on their watch)

perhaps facetious isn't the best adjective, but it was a serious thread
serious posts, serious debate, newsworthy news citations, etc. (sarcasm doesn't necessarily equate to farce)

if you have a ccp, you are good to go
otherwise you arent if the blade is over some arbitrary length that some suits in raleigh thought was appropriate5/5/2008 11:07:34 AM |

i bought some cheap (although well-balanced) knives on teh intarweb a few years back...i was pretty good with them for a while, but they took a hell of a beating (they were cheap enough that they'd bend easily after thunking into wooden posts a couple of times )
i can also shoot a recurve damn well
these are two skills that probably never serve me IRL, and i'm okay with that 5/5/2008 3:32:04 PM |

so
if you have a ccp
it's legal to conceal a handgun
but not a knife?
where's the logic in that?
if someone were to give me penetrating trauma, i'd rather it be from a low velocity stab wound than a mid-velocity handgun. cavitation is a bitch.
Quote : | "if you're going to carry a weapon, you should probably go ahead and carry one thats actually deadly" |
knives are pretty fucking deadly if you stab in the right spot and go deep enough
sure, long gashes are impressive
but it's the little tiny wounds about the width of the blade that i get worried about]5/6/2008 5:11:44 AM |

That's been my thought, but its a little different having a couple knives and having a gun on you...and getting a gun is a little more difficult at the moment, considering all the steps you have to go through.
And besides, its pretty satisfying being able to nail a target with a good knife throw. 5/6/2008 12:03:45 PM |

NC law is fairly vague. NC GS 14-269 is the statute that "covers" it. Basically unless it's a folding knife, you cannot conceal it. You're going to have a hard time explaining why you're carrying 3 non-folding (i.e. it's more dangerous than a pocket knife by some retarded reasoning) blades. If you explain that they're throwing knives, you're probably going to be more screwed. Doesn't make much sense but a lot of our weapons laws are like that (for example, a pistol grip on a long arm makes it more deadly apparently).
And the previous posters were correct about the CCP. North Carolina has a Concealed Carry PISTOL permit. Some other states have Concealed Carry WEAPON permits. Our does not allow concealed carry of any weapons other than a pistol. 5/6/2008 9:39:02 PM |

man that's difficult. ---
Steps for getting knives:
1. Buy knives for $11.
Steps for getting pistol:
1. Apply for permit in home county (Craven) 2. Get permit for $$$ (?) 3. Research and buy good gun for $$$$$$
Yes, getting a gun is a little more difficult than getting some throwing knives. Not to mention my parents' inquiry and surprise as to me getting a gun in the first place.
