This disgusts me. Seriously-- who's willing to argue that this is a morally acceptable thing to do?

I thought about it.

Even though i'm voting McCain i thought about voting Hillary in the primary just b.c she would more likely lose in Nov.

With the explicit purpose of using the primary system against the opposing party, in a matter other than simply voting against them. (ie: as it is intended)

I'm not saying it's illegal, it's clearly within your rights to swap parties with the the express goal of bringing down one individual, or another. That doesn't make it "morally acceptable", unless you're a "the ends always justify the means kind of guy, in which case best of luck!

(Unless of course it backfires... Hillary wins the nomination, and the presidency.)

I am most likely voting for McCain in the fall, but I voted for Hillary in the primary.

Not because I think it will hurt Obama (though it probably will) or because Hill would be easier for McCain to beat in Nov (though she would be), I just think she would be a better runner-up if McCain loses in November. It's a real possibility you have to consider.

I dont think people voting for someone else is undermining the process. But I wouldnt vote in a dem primary unless I really wanted that person in office. IE, if I wanted a dem to win or liked one dem better than the other, but was still going to vote republican..and that nomination was wrapped up.

I really dont think there are enough of these people to change the outcome though. Its just something to whine about.

Apparently it was illegal in Ohio.

You had to sign a pledge in order to switch party affiliation. If you did this, it was considered voting fraud.

i think the intention is clearly stated in the t-shirt above, to WIN in november. and its only illegal if you tell on yourself, no one can go into the voting booth with you to see who you vote for so it doesnt matter what kind of stalinist party oath you sign.

^^ exactly. We have secret ballots for a reason. That said,

I voted for Ron Paul today. I think it has the best chance of making a protest to the McCain phenomenon. He got 16% in PA which is nontrivial in my opinion. Especially when part of the socially/fiscally conservative crowd is engaging in OPERATION CHAOS. I did not participate because I'm too lazy to change party affiliation, and I'd like to vote in the republican primaries, my votes were

- Pittenger
- Graham
- Eric Smith
- Poirier
- Marty Miller
- Dole, cause there is no viable alternative (less than impressed with anybody in R-leadership type positions lately and I believe she fits the bill for that inept crowd).
- Tyson

I doubt most of these folks will win, you can look at

http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/Sampleballots/2008Primary/8PNCWAKER-10.pdf

if you want to know what my other options were.

It's the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if a third of the votes for Clinton in the past few months or so fall into the crossover sabotage category. And it's not the Republican's fault that Clinton is unwilling to let go of her pride and unite the party. You can't blame them for using that to their advantage.

Funny. The Democrats had a slam dunk last presidential election and blew it. They have an opportunity to have a slam dunk/grand slam/touchdown with a two point conversion this go round and they still seem to have found a way to blow it.

feel free to be upset about whatever you want

but someone such as yourself, who appears to read up on politics more than the average person, sure as shit shouldnt be surprised at something like this...and you should also know that there is no place for morals in politics...i mean how many politicians have to lie to your face before you stop trusting them?

I'll feel free to call Gore a hypocrite when everybody else is slurping his nuts up any chance they get (like you were)...it must really aggravate you that nothing in politics really pisses me off except a bunch of short sighted liars like you blowing everything out of proportion...attacking Gore for being a hypocrite is easy...but its pointless...unless people like you keep saying how great he is and how smart he is...you deserve to be put in your place

maybe you could keep making fun of my 4 year degree in marine and coastal resources...trivializing the college and the curriculum...what i studied for 4 years...by saying "i took this one class one time" and completely trivializing what i learned...basically just call me an idiot and discount anything i say, in favor of some fat hypocrite politician who is anxious to sell more carbon credits and make bank off simpletons like yourself

Democrats tried to disrupt the Republican process by voting for McCain in open primary states back in 2000. I doubt any of you were talking about what is moral and right then.

Furthermore, why are you going to blame the voters in those states who are given the opportunity to vote in any primary they choose? Their respective states have extended that voting right to them, so why are you trying to deny these people's voices at the voting booth?

FWIW, I would have voted for Hillary in the primary if given the chance, but I cannot do so in NC.

Unaffiliated voters like myself don't have to deal with this whole notion of "crossover."

BTW--since you're supposedly so concerned about people's votes--what about the approximately 15 million voters in Florida and Michigan? What, fuck 'em?

So the justifications thus far are

1) Democrats did it! Although IIRC those were only accusations-- source?

2) Voter fraud is possible, so it's ok.

I'm not going to do the research, but go back and look at the states McCain won in 2000. They were open primary states, and democrats were the reason behind it.

My justification is that if the state allows open primaries, then guess what? That voter has every fucking right with regards to which primary they vote in, regardless of what you think. If you don't like it, then hey, change the way the candidates are nominated. Besides, who are you to get all uppity about who or why a particular individual votes for a certain candidate? I don't see where that is any of your business because it's not your vote.

Hillary could very easily carry the popular vote into the Democratic Convention. It'll be interesting to see how the left justifies Obama's bid when this happens. I'd be willing to bet it'll be a complete 180 from the Bush/Gore race in 2000...we'll just have to see.
