So I have a full car lift. This is a 94 Ford mustang.
I have the engine out. the transmission is going to be replaced too. the only thing is...would it be easier to put the engine and transmission together and then try to drop them both in at the same time or not. It's just a PITA to put the engine and then the tranny back in separately.

lol, I would start with a official FORD service manual, they tend to have step by step pictures with explinations
I know HELM INC. prints them for HONDA... Dont know for FORD 5/7/2008 9:58:43 AM |

radiator, grill and support have to come out to put them in together, easier to do separately, mount the engine first, then the tranny from underneath, the engine hanging by the mounts puts it at a good angle to slide the tranny in from the rear 5/7/2008 10:20:32 AM |

six of one, half dozen of the other... either way has its advantages/disadvantages. since you've got a lift to get the car up some, you might be able to snake the combo in together if you've got a hoist that's got the range. otherwise you'll need to pull the front end apart like ^ said.
you may also be able to put it in bolted together from the bottom if you remove the K member. it's been a while since i've looked at an sn95 that close so i can't remember for sure. i know you can with the mod motor cars. 5/7/2008 11:06:50 AM |

I have the tranny out now.
I'm waiting on a transmission mount that should be here tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's going to be easy to snake it in. Was thinking of the suggestion of engine in, then pump the transmission into place. 5/7/2008 6:41:43 PM |

install transmisson to engine. raise car up on lift. remove the subframe connector and loosen steering/front suspension. wheel the engine/transmission under the car. lower car onto said combo. complete. 5/7/2008 8:55:14 PM |

droppin the k-member/suspension imo would be easier disassembly, especially with a lift but on the other hand i've done them together thru the engine bay. that was in 70's brand-x tho so the engine bay was wayyyy bigger 5/7/2008 10:42:12 PM |

the big question is whether or not you're doing it by yourself 5/8/2008 8:33:58 AM |
