Okay, so the gf's computer has kind of FUBARed on her (thankfully right just after she printed off a term paper!)
Heres the deal, it was working normally till one day its turned on and the screen is *messed* up. The image bounces around like seriously bad reception and is garbled almost beyond recognition. It also is so terribly slow that nothing can really be done. If you can actually look at it without getting a seizure, it may take 10-20 minutes to just get to the Windows XP load screen...
ANy clue what is going on... if I had to guess I'd say the video card is fried, but Id rather not go around plunking $$$ to try to get it fixed if its a lost cause...
Computer is a Compaq Prescario Laptop V5101US with XP pro w/ AMDsepron 2.0 ghz proc and 512mb memory.
thanks for any help... if any other info needed Ill answer 5/11/2008 9:23:19 AM |

might be that the connection to the screen has come loose
its a ribbon connector so this is very likely
just crack it open and check to see if everythings tight, reseat the cable, etc.
what do you mean when you say "messed up?" picture would be helpful. 5/11/2008 9:27:38 AM |

okay... now its more of just a bad light show, and nothing at all appears now... I fear it may be truly dead

yup
loose connection
if it's not that, then it's the controller/vid card. 5/11/2008 11:26:43 AM |

I would plug an external monitor in to it and back everything up to DVD or another computer before you start fucking with it too much. 5/11/2008 2:00:57 PM |

or you could take the hard drive out, buy a 2 1/2" usb enclosure and hook it to another computer. I ordered one from ebay for about $10(w/ shipping) and it works like a charm. Took about 3 days to get it. 5/11/2008 9:56:02 PM |

It wasn't the display hookup, its secure...
So I guess that means video-card or system... guess I'll have to take it to a pro (im not as comp savvy as I used to be )
But thanks for the HD idea, at least with that the data can be backed up! 5/11/2008 10:22:35 PM |
