So I was in the middle of checking my e-mail, the computer freezes, I try to reboot it and get a message saying something to the effect of no bootable device detected. I spoke to a dell rep who at first said maybe it just came loose, but before having me check on that, had me run a diagnostic which said error DST 1000-1042 I think which made the rep tell that its time to buy a new hard drive from dell (he was very specific buy one from, he repeated the whole conversation for a recording & included in it that he strongly reccomended buying a dell product) but I might be able to save some information with a IED USB cord.
So I'll try that cord thing, but does it really mean there is no choice but buy a new hard drive, or can anyone else think of other issues that might be going on?
I mean I've had this comuter for like 6 years and the rep told me inspiron 8200's are only designed to last 3 years so I really got my moneys worth. The timing kind of sucks since I had been extending the warrenty several times, and it only ran out a few months ago. 5/14/2008 7:49:46 PM |

go into bios and see if your hard drive is being detected. If not, you can go buy a hard drive cheaply. And about the 3 year thing, I expect computers/laptops to last at least 4+ years. 5/14/2008 9:00:51 PM |
